On June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in a mission that would help change the course of World War II.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the service members who took part in D-Day. Their legacy continues to inspire generations of Soldiers who stand ready to serve.

Did you know?
• The "D" in D-Day simply stands for "Day", it was a military planning term used when the exact date of an operation was not yet known.
• More than 156,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy, France, on D-Day.
• Troops came from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations.
• Nearly 11,000 aircraft and 5,000 ships participated in the operation.
• The invasion took place across five beaches: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
• D-Day launched the larger campaign known as the Battle of Normandy, which helped liberate Western Europe from N**i control.
• General Dwight D. Eisenhower commanded the Allied operation and later became the 34th President of the United States.
• More than 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed, wounded, or missing on D-Day.

BCT Myth vs. Fact 🎯

Myth: Basic Training is all physical fitness.
Fact: Soldiers learn first aid, Army values, teamwork, land navigation, weapons handling, and more.

Myth: You can’t contact your family during Basic Training.
Fact: While communication is limited, trainees can send letters and may receive phone privelages at certain points through the cycle.

Myth: One mistake will get you sent home.
Fact: Basic Training is a learning environment. Trainees are expected to make mistakes and improve.

Myth: If I join the National Guard, I’ll immediately be deployed after Basic Training.
Fact: Deployments vary by unit and missions. Most Guard members serve part-time while maintaining civilian careers or attending school.
