Today our members attended memorials at the American Legion George Smith Post #1607 and the Unionville Fire Department.

We at the Johnson Fire Department believe it’s important to honor the brave men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we are able to enjoy today. Their courage and service remind us of the true meaning of this solemn day.

While we enjoy time with family and friends, please remember those who gave everything so we could gather safely. We thank our veterans, active duty service members, and all first responders. Stay safe and have a meaningful Memorial Day.

This week is National EMS week, so make sure you let your EMS professionals know that you appreciate them!

This year, we are particularly thankful to Minisink’s own Lenape Volunteer Ambulance Corps and The Town of Wawayanda EMS. As you may know, last year one of our members had a medical emergency. As a result of the response, care, and advocacy provided by the responding EMS personnel for our member, they were awarded for their efforts during Garnet Hospital’s annual awards ceremony. Thank you and congratulations!

We at JFD appreciate all the local agencies that we get to work with, so we wish you all a very Happy EMS week!

Last night for our drill, along with our own members, the Unionville Fire Department came down to our firehouse to practice scenarios with us to recreate and allow members to practice what an actual call may look like.

We did multiple scenarios together, allowing us to practice skills such as dropping a supply line, stretching an attack line, effective radio communication, conducting primary searches, establishing a water supply, and what to do if the first due loses water supply.

As volunteers, it's important for us to train regularly to make sure our skills are up to the task at hand.

Wednesday evening, Johnson members were invited by Unionville Fire Department to participate in their drill which involved an extrication tool demonstration by Strategic Safety Dynamics. Members of both departments were able to test out a variety of battery operated extrication equipment and put these tools to the test on a few vehicles.

Thank you to all the people and companies that contributed to making this happen!
