Johnson Fire Department Founded in 1895, as the Sterling Hose Company, this page has been created as an outlet to promote Johnson Fire Department activities.

Founded in 1895, as the Sterling Hose Company, organized to offer fire protection services to the Village of Johnson, Vermont. In 1935, the mission of the department changed as well as the name to include fire protection of the surrounding Town of Johnson. In 2004,the fire house suffered a devastating fire on a very cold February morning, where a majority of the equipment and apparatus were destroyed. Today, The Members of the Johnson Fire Department operate out of a state of the art facility, protecting approximately 96 square miles that include the communities of Johnson, Waterville and Belvidere, Vermont.

We spent two recent drills working to get additional members proficient in operating our water rescue boats. Last Thursday we took an in-depth look at boat features, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Then this Saturday, members took to Lake Eden to spend the day practicing boat operation, kayak operation, and patient recovery.

Yesterday morning at 4am, 9E-1, our engine, pumped water for Johnson Fire Department for the last time. Since 2009, she has been our frontline attack truck and has seen 2,147 calls during her tenure here. Soon you’ll see her replacement. We hope 9E-1 serves her new home well.

We would like to thank the Johnson Woolen Mills for providing us, Cambridge Fire Department, North Hyde Park/Eden Fire Department, and Hyde Park Town Fire Department a tour of their facilities this evening. This allowed over 50 firefighters to become more familiar with their layout, hazards, and emergency equipment.
