Daylight Saving Time is your reminder to do more than change the clock — check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, too!

A working alarm can be the difference between life and death. Already in 2026, 22 New Yorkers have lost their lives in fires — many in homes without working alarms.

✔ Test alarms and replace batteries if needed
✔ Check expiration dates — most alarms last 10 years
✔ Clean dust from alarms and appliances
✔ Don’t forget carbon monoxide detectors
✔ Start spring cleaning to eliminate fire hazards

We feel the need to make this post to set the record straight about some comments that were made by Mr. Bob Utter last night at the Town of Maine Board meeting. The EMFC has NOT been approached by the IDA with any offer of money, even if they had we would not accept it. We were approached in July and asked what it we would need to cover the development. We in turn returned 20 questions to the IDA because they had not provided us enough information (besides a map) to answer that question. We have not yet recieved any answers to those questions from the IDA. We will provide this correspondence to the Town Supervisor. Before people start spreading miss information about us we ask that you talk to us and check your facts and sources.
