Please join us tonight as the Village of Johnson City and our consultants from Colliers Engineering and Design hold a brief presentation to showcase the proposed updates to the Village's Comprehensive Plan. The presentation will kick-off at 5:30 PM in the Village Board Room followed by a public comment period where the Comprehensive Planning Committee will hear feedback from the community and may make a final recommendation to the Village Board regarding the final adoption of the plan.

The Village of Johnson City wishes to inform residents that an issue affecting certain property tax exemptions has been identified and is currently being corrected.
According to Broome County Real Property Tax Services, the omission of exemptions was the result of an unintentional issue within the New York State Real Property System (RPS). Real Property Tax Services has advised that a table used by the RPS system to calculate exemptions for properties in both Johnson City and Endicott was inadvertently lost within the system.

Once the issue was discovered, the necessary exemption information was manually entered to ensure that corrections could be made as quickly as possible. This action was taken to avoid placing an unnecessary financial burden on taxpayers by requiring them to pay higher tax bills and then wait for refunds to be issued.

The Town of Union will be issuing corrected tax bills as soon as possible. Updated information will also be reflected on TaxLookup.net once the Village Tax Collector completes the necessary information upload.

Residents who believe they are affected by this issue are advised not to submit payment using the original tax bill and instead wait to receive their corrected bill. If payment is made using the original bill, a refund process would then be required.

To ensure taxpayers are not disadvantaged by the correction process, affected property owners will have eight (8) days to make payment from the mailing date of the corrected bill or until the original due date, whichever is later.

The Village of Johnson City appreciates residents' patience and understanding as this higher-level administrative issue is addressed. Our priority remains ensuring that taxpayers receive accurate bills and are treated fairly throughout this process.

Statement from Mayor Christina Charuk Regarding Village Tax Bills

The Village of Johnson City is aware of concerns regarding recent Village tax bills and the impact this issue may have on residents.
Based on the information currently available, this matter appears to be the result of a higher-level administrative issue involving the application of property tax exemptions that originated outside of Village government. The Village of Johnson City did not create this error, nor did the Village alter the tax levy approved through the public budget process.

Although this issue is beyond the Village's control, we recognize the confusion and frustration it has caused for our residents. We are actively working with Broome County Real Property Tax Services and other appropriate agencies to determine the exact cause of the problem and to ensure that any necessary corrections are identified and implemented as quickly as possible.

Our priority is to advocate for Johnson City taxpayers and to provide clear, accurate information throughout this process.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents while this matter is being addressed.
