On Thursday, the Middle School Transitions Academy had its year-end celebration of hard work at Dave & Buster's in Johnson City. Students were committed to making academic progress, personal growth and overcoming challenges, all while collecting bottles to help cover the cost of their well-deserved trip. Transition Academy students would like to thank all those who donated bottles and funds to make this rewarding day possible. Special thanks to the team at Dave & Buster's for hosting our group and ensuring the students had an amazing time.

On the evening of June 18, the middle school held its 8th-grade Moving-Up Ceremony to celebrate the Class of 2030. We congratulate these students and wish them the best as they transition to high school. The middle school also recognized Dean of Students Ahlpheh Wilson and Special Education Teacher Jean Rodgers, who are soon to retire, for their many years of service and dedication to students.

Earlier this month, Broome-Tioga BOCES invited school officials to its annual event to recognize all area valedictorians and salutatorians. Superintendent Race and Johnson City High School Principal Deinhardt were on hand to celebrate our valedictorian, Valerie Shofkom and salutatorian, Jimena Marroquin.

In more 3rd-grade news, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Homsher’s class held a family celebration today. Students shared their portfolios, filled with writing, reading, and math projects.

Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Pellicciotti’s 3rd graders hosted their annual end-of-year family celebration. Students shared writing pieces from the beginning of the year through now, their favorite third-grade work, and art pieces from the year. The class also shared their favorite memories and the topics they learned throughout the year.

Some students in Mrs. Zakrajsek's 4th-grade class shared their unique talents and skills with each other this month. Students prepared lessons, served as teachers, and gave demonstrations to their classmates on the following topics: drawing, softball, crocheting, singing, speaking and writing Arabic, bracelet-making, dancing, and jump-roping. Students invited their peers to participate, and all had fun learning something new!

As a fun end-of-school-year project, Miss Edwards’ 4th-graders worked in pairs to develop product ideas and present them to their classmates and invited family members in “Shark Tank”-style demonstrations. Each product had to help the consumer and include an estimated cost and place of purchase. Projects ranged from the “Bin-go” movable garbage can and “H.M.R.” healthy makeup remover to “Rocket Jet” shoes and the “Recycle It Now 2000.” Afterward, the students answered questions about their product.
