I’m running for this position because I am committed to children and education. The main challenges and issues I would like to address is drugs, violence, curricula, funding equity, and student population/ growth in the St. John’s D9 Constituency. Example: 1. How can we increase enrollment and keep the Island children in our Island Schools. 2. Ways to improve our school facilities, ensure air quality, broadband, safe pathways to and from school, I.e sidewalks, transportation. 3. Competitive sports arena such as field and track, tennis, baseball, football, and volleyball. 4. Teacher diversity, housing and travel stipends to attract even more quality teachers. 5. Provide in-house curricular so students can obtain an Associate's Degree at their D9 High School located on the John’s Island campus.
The skills that I bring are educational work experiences currently as an a Reading Interventionist; formerly a school Data Clerk, Focus Facilitator of Discipline, Computer Teacher, S.T.E.A.M. Teacher, Parent Liaison, Special Needs Teacher Assistant; Former Police/Fire Dispatcher, First Responder Chaplain; A Restorative Practice Practitioner, Crisis Intervention Stress Management Certification, Certified Family Marriage Counseling, and 25 years as a former School Bus Diver and Driver’s Representative. I would also lend my skills and experiences of being a CCSD Graduate, and the wife, mother, and grandmother of CCSD/ Public school graduates. I am a visionary with strategic planning, accounting and budgetary competencies, as well as impeccable customer skills. Having worked as a radio talk show host and journalist, I am empowered with the gift clearly articulate and speak forth with vigor, vitality, and confidence as I advocate on behalf of St. John’s Districts constituents.
I would communicate respectfully and empathetically with stakeholders with intellectual conversation that would meet them where they are so that we could affect positive change. Regardless of an individual’s station in life, lifestyle, race, gender, creed, religious or political views. As the current constituent board chair, I engage with board members and all stakeholders in an ethical and professional manner. Our schools are a melting pot of diverse cultures that should be treated with respect and dignity. “We learn from one another.” I myself am a melting pot of multicultural DNA that consist of family, friends, and colleagues.
