Rural.gov's blog post this month features our community's broadband efforts.

The Rural Partners Network is helping rural communities create more desirable, livable, and economically viable communities. One strategy is to link rural community projects to multiple funders to “stack” capital. Here’s an example from John Day, Oregon.

Many times it can be difficult for emergency responders to reach business owners after hours in the event of an emergency. If you are a business owner and would like to have your emergency contact information on file with the Grant County Emergency Communications Agency, please take time to complete and return the Business Emergency Contact Form located on our website's documents page:

Concrete sidewalks are being poured by Tidewater Contractors overseen by the Oregon Department of Transportation team on S. Canyon Blvd in John Day. This project is building sidewalks to Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School - Oregon as part of the Safe Routes to School program. While it may sound simple, the project is also addressing complex stormwater management and utility relocates needed since much of this area is located in an area near Canyon Creek that is prone to floods.

The SW 4th Avenue road repair work from the April 2019 flood is ongoing. Tidewater Contractors is scheduled to have the road at grade by the end of this month with finish work in November. These Hilfiker retaining walls lock the soil in place, each lift building on the one below it to create a stable road base adjacent to the creek that will prevent future erosion and flood damage. Thanks to all our residents for your patience as we work on these much-needed road repairs, and to Business Oregon and the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency for providing the funding to our community.

Knife River Corporation is mobilizing this week to begin work on John Day's West 7th Street Improvements project. The area from Patterson Bridge Road east from OTEC's parking lot to the site of the new treatment plant may experience temporary lane closures during construction. Excited to welcome them to our community!

We have received several inquiries about the bales on South Canyon across from the Catholic Church. This is a safety feature for some work OTEC will be doing in the area this week.
