I have received several complaints and also witnessed myself a great deal of grass on the roadways. I know that the grass is growing pretty fast right now and can easily get out of control. This is a reminder that grass and weeds are not to be blown into the road. This can cause problems with the storm drains and it also looks terrible. Thank you for doing your part keeping our community great. Chief Evans

The City of Jesup has declared a snow emergency starting at 11 pm Tuesday 1/20/26 until 11 am Wednesday 1/21/26. No street parking during this time. Just because that street has been plowed once or twice, does not mean that the plows will not be by again. Do not move your snow onto the streets. If you are impeding snow removal, you are in violation. Also, do not forget about clearing your sidewalks as well. Thanks, Chief Evans

This is absolutely ridiculous, lazy, disrespectful, and illegal!!!! A few of us went down and tried to clean this up a bit tonight. I do have pictures of some names of the ones that were on the ground. I don't care if this did not get picked up regularly like it was supposed to. This is illegal dumping!!! I also retrieved several items that were not cardboard. This has been an ongoing issue. If I had a say in the future of these bins, they would be gone!!!

If the receptacles are full, do not leave your items!!!

Chief Evans

Fireworks Use During New Years

Under Iowa law, the use of fireworks is allowed from 9:00 am on December 31 to 12:30 am on January 1. This law is statewide and therefore applies to each city in Buchanan County as well as all of rural Buchanan County. The use of fireworks outside of these authorized time periods may be illegal and local city/county ordinances will be enforced. In city limits, check with your City Hall if you have questions regarding local fireworks ordinances.

The use of fireworks is still restricted to private property or property where consent has been granted. Fireworks are generally prohibited on public property such as parks, streets and trails, even during the permitted times. State laws regulating the use of fireworks, like restrictions on sales to minors or the use of large display fireworks without permits, still apply.

Keep safety in mind! Fireworks are best handled by professionals. If you choose to use fireworks:

- Please obey ALL laws and local regulations.
- Use fireworks outdoors and in a clear area.
- Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
- Have a fire extinguisher or source of water nearby.
- Dispose of used fireworks by soaking in water first.
- Avoid alcohol before and when using fireworks.
- Never attempt to relight malfunctioning fireworks.
- Cease all use of fireworks when the timeframe allowed by law ends.

Please be considerate of your neighbors (such as elderly and veterans) and reach out to them beforehand about your fireworks plans.

Have a safe and enjoyable New Year!
