Tonight the members of Independent Hose Co met to honor the passing of our Chaplain Ronnie Markle. Ronnie joined Independent Hose in 1961 and was active for over 21 years actively serving the community. Ronnie had a servants heart and continued to serve at Independent hose as our chaplain. May God bless you Ronnie.

We had a special visitor at the station tonight from a borough resident 82 years young who came across these old articles from the Express on the Mercury building fire from 1970. She shared with us her story watching people lined up on porches and balconies waiting for fireman to rescue the trapped residents. The articles reference support from Independent Hose company, Citizens Hose company, and Avis Fire department.

Interestingly our visitor commented on the number of people who volunteered back then and hoped that maybe sharing these would inspire others to consider volunteering in the community. If you would be interested in learning more about Independent Hose Company you can stop by 130 Pennsylvania Ave on any Monday night. Junior members can join and start their training at age 14.
