Jersey City raised the Juneteenth flag in recognition of freedom, resilience, and the generations who fought to make the promise of liberty more complete.

Residents, veterans, community leaders, and City officials gathered at City Hall to commemorate June 19, 1865 and reflect on the lasting importance of Juneteenth in American history.

The ceremony included remarks, recognition of community members, and the presentation of a City proclamation honoring the work of the Frederick Douglass Juneteenth Celebration and members of the National Juneteenth Observation Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this meaningful commemoration possible and who continues working to preserve and share the history of Juneteenth.

🇺🇸 History came to life at the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery during its REV 250 Celebration 🇺🇸

Held in recognition of Flag Day and America’s 250th anniversary, the event brought residents together for an afternoon of music, remembrance, and local history. Mayor Solomon offered remarks, the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players performed a patriotic concert, and Revolutionary War reenactors shared stories, maps, and historical knowledge connected to Jersey City and the surrounding region.

Set within one of Jersey City’s oldest landmarks, the celebration gave attendees an opportunity to reflect on the people, places, and sacrifices that helped shape our country.

Thank you to the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery, the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players, participating veterans and reenactors, and everyone who helped bring this history to life.
