AlertJC: A severe thunderstorm and flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for our area through Friday, August 21, at 2:00 AM. High winds could damage trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.

In advance of the storms, City crews are targeting flood-prone areas, preparing barricades along roadways, and clearing catch basins of debris in low-lying locations to help the water drain faster.

JCPD is reminding residents to take the following precautions:
✅ Never drive or walk through flooded roads
✅ Never touch downed power lines
✅ Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.

300 backpacks were given away to Jersey City students this weekend when the JCPD proudly partnered with & community volunteers to help start the new school year prepared and ready to learn. 🎒📚

Families joined us at the JCPD West District for the annual Back-to-School Bookbag Giveaway, where backpacks stuffed with school supplies were distributed to local children.

Thank you to ICNA Relief, Muslim American Law Enforcement Association, .jerseycity.sisters our public safety & JCPD volunteers, and all of the community partners who helped make the event possible.

Supporting our youth extends beyond public safety. It also means building relationships, strengthening neighborhoods, and showing up for our community when it matters.

Heads up, riders! This weekend, Routes 10 and 119 will run on a temporary detour due to the Puerto Rican Festival & Parade.

📅 When: Sat, Aug 15, 6:00 AM → Mon, Aug 17, 3:00 AM
📍 Where: Buses will not run on JFK Blvd between Belmont Ave and Kensington Ave during this time.

🔄 Detour Route
Buses going toward New York:
JFK Blvd & Communipaw Ave ➡️ Left on Communipaw Ave ➡️ Right on West Side Ave ➡️ Right on Sip Ave ➡️ Left on JFK Blvd ➡️ Continue regular route

Buses going toward Bayonne:
JFK Blvd & Sip Ave ➡️ Right on Sip Ave ➡️ Left on West Side Ave ➡️ Left on Communipaw Ave ➡️ Right on JFK Blvd ➡️ Continue regular route

AlertJC: A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service through 9:00 pm this evening, Monday, August 10. These thunderstorms have the possibility of isolated incidents of flash floods in urban, poor drainage, and low-lying areas. High wind gusts could damage trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.

In advance of the storms, City crews are targeting flood-prone areas, preparing barricades along roadways, and clearing catch basins of debris in low-lying locations to help the water drain faster.

PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: Dangerous Heat Friday and Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for our area through Saturday, August 8, with heat index values potentially as high as 98. The hottest conditions are expected between 1100 am and 6:00 pm.

JCPD is reminding residents to take the following precautions:
✅ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
✅ Limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours
✅ Check on seniors, children, and vulnerable neighbors
✅ Never leave children or pets inside vehicles
✅ Call 911 if someone appears to be in distress
✅ Visit a cooling location when needed
