Happy New Year! While you were celebrating or sleeping on this first day of 2026, La Mott was busy with two major incidents.
At 3:55AM this morning the Fire Company was dispatched to a car fire on Chelten Hills Drive near Church Road. Within one minute the call was upgraded to a building fire as the car (which was on fire) had crashed into a home on Chelten Hills drive, causing the house to catch fire. Fortunately there were no injuries.
At 7:55 while still in the station cleaning equipment from the previous call, the fire company was dispatched to a vehicle rescue with entrapment on Church Road at Pardee Lane, the car was reported to be on it side. With the assistance of the Weldon and Cheltenham fire companies the driver was extracted from the vehicle with apparent minor injuries.

We would like to thank all of our mutual aide fire companies from Cheltenham, Abington, Springfield and Jenkintown, and Rockledge. We would also like to thank Cheltenham EMS, Cheltenham Police Department, Cheltenham Public Works and the multiple Fire Marshals offices.

The Jenkintown Fire Department offers our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues on the passing of Fire Marshal John Rohrer. He assisted Jenkintown on countless occasions and was always quick to offer a helping hand or his support. He was a true professional and will be greatly missed on and off the fire ground. Rest easy Chief.

4TH OF JULY PARADE
9:30 AM START
**note the time change from last year**

The Jenkintown Volunteer Fire Department is once again proud to sponsor the Borough’s Annual 4th of July Celebration. This year’s parade will be on Friday, July 4th, at 9:30 A.M. with a rain date of Saturday, July 5th, at 9:30 A.M.

The Celebration will once again feature a Parade of our local fire trucks, color Guard, bands and decorated bikes for children. In addition, various community service groups including The Boys/Girl Scouts and J.Y.A. will also be attendance. Being a safety-oriented organization, we would ask that any child riding a bike through the parade route that is under the age of 12 wear a bike helmet. At the conclusion of the Parade, we will award prizes in the Town Square for the Best Decorated Bikes. This year’s awards will be divided into three (3) categories, Strollers & Wagons, Tricycles and Bikes. We will also feature games for all ages, including the “Peanut Scramble,” “Egg Toss,” and various other games.

This year’s Parade Route will begin on Leedom Street and Greenwood Avenue. It will proceed North on Leedom Street to Hillside Avenue, West on Hillside Avenue to Walnut Street, South on Walnut Street to West Avenue and commence at the Town Square on Leedom Street. We will be serving hot dogs and cold beverages at the Pioneer Fire Company at the conclusion of the parade.

UPDATE: The flare off will continue until approximately 10 PM, on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The Abington Township Fire Marshal has been notified of a planned propane tank flare off occurring at SPS Technologies on Monday, April 7th, 2025, from approximately 10am-2pm. A Flare Off is a controlled burning of high v***r pressure liquid or compressed gas in order to reduce or control the pressure and/or dispose of the product. You may expect to a see a flame in a remote area on the property from a piece of equipment designed for this purpose. You may also hear loud noises during this operation as well. This is a normal operation that propane companies conduct regularly and should not be a cause for concern.

The reason for this operation is the removal of an existing onsite propane tank, which is not inside the structure, but located approximately 75 feet from the building. The operation is being conducted by a licensed propane supply company in coordination with the Abington Township Fire Marshal.

For SPS updates, visit www.abingtonpa.gov/SPSupdates.
