Taser 10 Training — Investing in Officer & Community Safety

Today, the Jenkins Police Department completed several hours of Taser training on our new Taser 10 systems, purchased to better protect our officers and the community we proudly serve.

As part of the training, Ofc. Wolford was voluntarily tased, just as other officers with the Jenkins Police Department have done during their training. This experience helps our officers understand firsthand the effects of a Taser and, importantly, understand that a Taser is not 100% guaranteed to stop or incapacitate someone. Proper training and understanding of the equipment are essential when making critical decisions in the field.

We would like to sincerely thank Ofc. Jordan Clemens with the Whitesburg Police Department for taking the time to teach and provide this valuable training to our officers.

Chief Richardson and the Jenkins Police Department remain committed to rebuilding, improving, and strengthening our department through better equipment, continued training, and a commitment to serving and protecting our community.

⚠️ TRAVEL ADVISORY – HIGH WATER ⚠️

The Jenkins Police Department is advising motorists to use extreme caution while traveling along KY 805 and several surrounding side roads due to high water.

🌧️ Water may be present on roadways with limited visibility in some areas. Please slow down, allow extra travel time, and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

We encourage everyone to stay safe and use caution while traveling. If you encounter dangerous road conditions, please report them to the appropriate authorities.

The Police Department is proud to announce that Chief Richardson successfully applied for a Body Armor Grant through the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, and the grant has been approved.

As a result, the department will receive approximately $2,000 worth of new body armor vests at no cost to the City. This funding helps ensure our officers have updated protective equipment while saving taxpayer dollars.

We appreciate the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office for supporting law enforcement and helping us continue to provide the safest possible service to our community.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

On May 22nd, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Sgt. Josh Richardson conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Silverado in the Premier Subdivision area. Sgt. Richardson was assisted by Fleming-Neon Police Chief Dustin Jackson and K9 Ares.

During the stop, K9 Ares was deployed and alerted on the vehicle, providing probable cause for a search. As a result of the search, officers located approximately one ounce of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging materials commonly associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics, ma*****na, and additional drug paraphernalia.

Charges are pending/appropriate charges were filed in connection with the investigation. We remain committed to keeping illegal drugs out of our communities and appreciate the continued support of the public.

Earlier this morning Jenkins Police Department received information relating to an incident which occurred in Rocky Hollow yesterday from Sheriff Jones.
Based on this information Sergeant Richardson opened an investigation. During the course of the investigation he was able to obtain video evidence and statements. He then presented this evidence to Letcher County Attorney Jamie Hatton for review. An arrest warrant was issued for cruelty to animals and wanton endangerment.

This evening Sergeant Richardson, along with Chief Deputy Dingus and Deputy Jacobs of Letcher County Sheriff’s Office arrested Johnny Tinnel on the warrant.
