Your Jeffersonville Fire Department was honored to take part in the ceremonies as we remember and honor the innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Thank you to Sacred Heart Catholic for allowing us to be a part of the remembrance ceremony, including the raising of the flag and placing it at half-staff.

We also gathered with our fellow brothers and sisters from Clarksville Fire Department, Charlestown Fire Department, and Tri-Township Fire & Rescue as Mission BBQ hosted us for a ceremony to honor the fallen.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

JFD Crews Make Quick Work of Structure Fire

(Jeffersonville, IN) On August 31 at approximately 10:46 p.m., the Jeffersonville Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a working fire in the 1500 block of East 10th Street.

Thanks to previous pre-planning of the district, crews knew they were responding to a two-story apartment complex before they even arrived. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the roofline and immediately went to work.

A hose line was deployed to the second floor while separate crews performed a search of the structure. The search was negative. The fire was quickly knocked down, and the unit was checked for further fire extension, with no additional fire found.

A big shoutout to the caller who saw something and said something. Early notification helped prevent what potentially could have been a much larger fire.

Great job by our JFD firefighters, who got ahead of it and put a stop to it! đź’Ş

*UPDATE**

Crews were dispatched at 6:10 p.m. to a reported working structure fire in the 200 block of East Charlestown Avenue.

The initial engine on scene reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure.

Crews deployed two 1 3/4 inch handlines and breached the front door. The deck gun was operated in a transitional attack to gain fire control. Once conditions improved and the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews transitioned to an offensive interior attack.

Primary and secondary searches were conducted on the first floor and the basement, with both searches turning up negative.

A third 1Âľ-inch handline was deployed for additional fire suppression.

The fire was declared under control at 6:32 p.m. Crews remain on scene extinguishing hot spots and conducting overhaul.

No injuries reported.
