The Twiggs County Fire Department asks our community to come together in support of Shakela Height as she faces a difficult battle with illness.

Shakela is a valued member of our community, and during this challenging time, she and her family need our strength, prayers, and encouragement more than ever. We stand together with hope, compassion, and unwavering support.

We encourage everyone to keep Shakela in your thoughts and prayers. If you’re able, please consider reaching out, offering kind words, or supporting her and her family in any way you can.

This is what community is all about — standing together when it matters most.

Ga Forestry is advising we are under an early burn ban due the drought that we are in. That means no fires or burns except agricultural burns are being permitted for the rest of this week and next week for right now. It could be longer I will update further when we know more. Also remember the the burn ban is coming into affect May 1st - Oct 31. We have shared a post from Georgia Forestry Commission post that tells you safety precautions that forestry has put in place. Please everyone be safe and we will update more when we know more. Thank you.

Georgia’s drought continues to worsen — and nearly every corner of the state is feeling the impact.

📍 98.1% of Georgia’s land area is now in moderate to exceptional drought
📍 69.1% of Georgia’s land area is in extreme to exceptional drought
📍 9.6 million Georgians live in drought-affected areas
📍 This was Georgia’s 8th driest first quarter (Jan.–March) on record dating back to 1895

Dry grass, leaf litter, woods and fields can ignite quickly under these conditions, allowing wildfires to spread faster and burn more aggressively.

We all have a role to play in preventing the next wildfire:
✔️ Avoid parking vehicles in dry grass
✔️ Use outdoor equipment carefully
✔️ Never leave grills, fire pits or debris burns unattended
✔️ Obey local burn restrictions and permit guidance
✔️ Report smoke or wildfire concerns quickly

One less spark can mean one less wildfire.

Fighting fire. Protecting forests. Serving Georgia.
