🌤️ Weather Update for Jackson County

The National Weather Service is monitoring the potential for a line of strong to severe thunderstorms to move across North and Central Georgia late this afternoon through the overnight hours.

⚠️ What to Expect:
• Damaging wind gusts
• Frequent lightning
• Heavy rainfall
• Localized flash flooding
• A brief spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out

📍 Risk Levels:
• Severe Weather: Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) and Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5)
• Excessive Rainfall/Flash Flooding: Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) and Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4)

🌧️ The highest risk for severe weather and excessive rainfall remains across North Georgia, including Jackson County.

🕓 Timing:
Storms are expected to develop after 4:00 PM today and may continue into the overnight hours.

There remains some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and intensity of the storm line, so residents should stay weather aware throughout the day and evening.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur will bring a risk for heavy rain to much of the area on Thursday. Several inches of rain are possible and could lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage urban areas.

Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Oconee, southeastern Barrow, north central Morgan, southeastern Banks, Clarke, northeastern Walton, northwestern Greene, southeastern Jackson, Oglethorpe and Madison Counties through 845 PM EDT

At 757 PM EDT, a line of strong thunderstorms was along a line extending from Maysville to Arcade to near Windsor, and moving east at 50 mph.

HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Locations impacted include...
Watkinsville, Danielsville, Lexington, Athens, Statham, Arcade, Nicholson, Comer, Winterville, Bogart, Crawford, North High Shoals, Colbert, Bostwick, Arnoldsville, Ila, Good Hope, Carlton, Maxeys, and
Bishop.

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.

At 719 PM EDT, a line of strong thunderstorms was along a line extending from near Gillsville to Hoschton to near Lilburn, and moving southeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning and
heavy rain.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.
