An individual called the Sheriff's Office in distress, and in need of assistance in getting back to her family. Marion County Dispatch contacted Cass County Sheriff Office Texas and Bowie County Sheriff's Office, who provided deputies to transport the individual all the way home. Thanks to all of our area partners in assisting!

Later that evening, our deputies followed up on a welfare check from several days ago. They put their investigative skills to use and tracked the individual down and had them notify their family that they were safe. Great job, deputies!

***** ATTENTION:

It seems as if someone is taking advantage of our district court date today and making calls to people pretending to be us! Unfortunately for them, they are using names from people who no longer work for us or have never worked for us.

Please forward this post and help us spread the word. And please - do NOT go withdraw cash to deliver to these scammers OR forward them any of your banking information.

A popular technique for these types of scams will have these individuals follow you to the ATM and rob you there, rather than letting you bring the money to the Sheriff's Office.
We have heard that today's scammers are posing to call from our phone number. If you are concerned, please hang up with them and call our non-emergency number at (903) 665-3961 for true and accurate information.
We would like to remind our community that we will NEVER call you on the phone and demand payment. Almost all official correspondence from the court(s) will be by certified letter, unless we deliver in-person and in uniform.

Law enforcement officers have to take on the role of many different positions. Saturday night, in response to a structure fire on MLK, our Marion County Sheriff Office of Jefferson, Texas deputies did just that. Deputies Maxwell and Green responded to assist with a call with Jefferson Police Department at an apartment structure fire. Once it was confirmed that everybody was out of the apartment building, cars parked out front were moved to a safe location, and needed resources were on their way, our deputies then switched roles and began to assist the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department by helping operate a fire apparatus and at one point even getting on the nozzle of the hose to allow a firefighter to take a quick break. Both deputies have had prior years of experience as firefighters and knew just what was needed to assist Jefferson Fire in completing the task of controlling this incident. This incident was a perfect example of how Deputies must play multiple roles and the incredible teamwork between Jefferson Police Department, Jefferson volunteer Fire Dept, S & W Wrecker service, and the Marion County Sheriff' Office.

Several families associated with Jefferson ISD were affected by the fire, and you can head to the Jefferson Elementary School page to see what items are needed and drop off all donations with the school.

Many of these scam calls can sound very convincing and we would encourage our community to use caution when dealing with any of these calls.

Yesterday, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff Office of Jefferson, Texas and the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire on FM 729.

Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the fire. Volunteer firefighters fought hard in extreme heat to keep the fire from spreading, and additional help from Mims FD arrived to aid in the response.

We pray you never have to witness it firsthand, (unless of course you join them!) but they are inspiring to behold.

We want you to know how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated and courageous group of firefighters in Marion County - and they are all volunteer.
