🚑 By the Numbers – May 2026 🚑

In May, your Jackson County EMS crews responded to *976 calls for service* across our community—providing care when and where it was needed most.

Here’s a closer look at the month:
• 646 patients transported to area hospitals
• 164 patient refusals
• 168 calls cancelled
• 7 patients received life-saving blood products in the field

We saw a 15.5% increase in call volume from the month of April.

Behind every number is a neighbor, a family member, or a friend. We are proud to serve Jackson County 24/7.

🚑 MEDICAL MONDAY: MYTH VS. FACT

MYTH:
“If I go to the hospital by ambulance, I’ll get seen faster in the Emergency Room.”

FACT:
Arriving by ambulance does not automatically move you to the front of the line.

When Jackson County EMS brings a patient to the Emergency Department, hospital staff perform a triage assessment to determine how serious the patient’s condition is. Patients with life-threatening emergencies—such as strokes, heart attacks, severe trauma, or difficulty breathing—are prioritized for treatment regardless of how they arrived.

If your condition is stable, you may still wait to be seen, even if you arrived by ambulance.

🚑 Call 911 when you are experiencing a medical emergency, not as a shortcut to faster care.

Examples of emergencies include:
✅ Chest pain
✅ Signs of stroke
✅ Severe difficulty breathing
✅ Serious injuries
✅ Loss of consciousness
✅ Severe allergic reactions

Our goal is to provide emergency medical care when you need it most and get you safely to the appropriate level of care.

Remember: The ambulance starts treatment on the way to the hospital if necessary, but it does not guarantee a faster ER visit.

Stay informed. Stay safe.

☀️ WATER SAFETY TIPS FOR KIDS 💦Schools out! Summer time is here! As families head to pools, lakes, and beaches, Jackson County EMS wants to remind everyone that water safety saves lives.

👀 ALWAYS supervise children around water — even if they know how to swim. Drowning can happen quickly and silently.

🛟 Life jackets save lives! Make sure kids wear properly fitted Coast Guard-approved life jackets when boating or swimming in open water.

📱 Put distractions away. Stay focused on children when they’re in or near the water.

🏊 Enroll kids in swimming lessons to help build confidence and water safety skills.

🚫 Never swim alone and avoid rough or unfamiliar water conditions.

💧 Stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat.

🚑 In an emergency, call 911 immediately.

Let’s work together to keep our kids safe and make this summer fun for everyone! ☀️

🚑 What We Do Wednesday🚑

💪 Meet the muscles of the Jackson County EMS team… the Stryker XPS Power Load Stretcher System!

What does that mean?
It means less lifting, smoother loading, and safer transport for both our patients AND our crews. Technology is doing some of the heavy lifting now — literally.

These new stretchers help our EMS professionals load patients into the ambulance with the push of a button, reducing strain and helping us provide even better care when seconds matter most.

And yes… it’s pretty cool to watch in action. 👀

Check out the video below to see the system at work! ⬇️

Jackson County EMS is proud to continue investing in equipment that improves safety, efficiency, and patient care for our community. ❤️

As we wrap up EMS Week 2026, this post goes out to all the Jackson County EMS crews and their families.

Thank you for choosing this profession.

EMS has changed so much from where it began that it is almost unrecognizable. You have stayed agile. The job requires long hours, and you have stayed committed to both your patients and your families. The care has become more complex, and you have kept learning. Most people do not realize all that you can do or how deep your medical knowledge has to be, but you were not deterred.

EMS professionals continue to carry enormous responsibility while often earning less than many comparable healthcare roles, yet you remain committed to serving this community every single day.

All the while, you keep pushing forward: Advanced airway skills. More than 40 medications. Blood product administration. Nation-leading cardiac arrest survival rates. Peer support initiatives. Participation in state committees. Conferences. Networking with other agencies and hospitals. Constantly improving.

It is a testament to the calling this job requires. A demonstration of love, community, and compassion for total strangers.

“Improving Outcomes Together” is this year’s EMS Week theme, and I cannot think of a phrase that better represents the staff of JCEMS.

On behalf of the entire EMS leadership team, thank you for what you do day in and day out.

Happy EMS Week.

Tell us your story!

Every day, our EMS crews show up for people on what are often the worst days of their lives. Some calls are dramatic and life-saving. Others are quiet moments that never make a report such as helping someone, calming a scared patient, or just being there when everything feels overwhelming.

We would love to hear from our community.
If EMS has ever made a difference in your life or your family’s life, share your story with us. It can be big or small, saving a life, comforting a loved one, or simply treating you with kindness when you needed it most.
These moments matter more than most people realize. For our crews, hearing how they have impacted someone can be the reminder that keeps them going through long shifts, hard calls, and tough days.

Drop your story in the comments or send us a message if you prefer to share privately. We appreciate every single one.

Thank you for letting us serve you.
