The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) urges ATV and UTV riders to review recent law changes that take effect June 1.

Numerous law changes and updates pertaining to ATV and UTV operation are detailed in the 2026 ATV/UTV regulations.

Updates include:

*Operators and passengers are all required to wear a seatbelt in a UTV.

*Operators and passengers are now required wear eye protection unless the ATV/UTV has a windshield.

*Intentionally causing damage with an ATV or UTV can cost you more than a fine – up to three times the cost to repair the damage.

*ATV or UTV operators may not tow objects bearing any person on a trail or route. Towing persons on ice is limited to 10 mph.

*UTVs now have window tint restrictions.

The Jefferson Police Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Jeremy of Wisco Aerial & Ground Services for his generous donation of critical rescue equipment to our department.

Jeremy recently donated a Halligan tool and a folding rescue litter, equipment that will enhance our ability to respond to emergencies and assist those in need. These tools provide valuable capabilities during rescue operations and help ensure our officers are equipped to serve the community safely and effectively.

Wisco Aerial & Ground Services provides specialized drone and ground-based support services throughout Southern Wisconsin, including search and recovery operations, aerial imaging, mapping, inspections, public safety support, and emergency response assistance, which he offers free to police and fire departments.

Yesterday the department set up the radar trailer for the East Elementary field day. The weather was perfect and fun was had by all.

Today was "Drive your Tractor to School Day". We were happy to assist in getting the tractors safely to school grounds and support those that are excited about agriculture and farming.
