The Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority is seeking an organized, ethical, and motivated Human Resources Manager to join our team in Jefferson, Georgia.

This position oversees payroll, employee benefits, personnel policies, recruitment, employee relations, and confidential records. The position also typically serves as Secretary to the Authority Board and provides executive and administrative support to the General Manager.

Applicants should have at least four years of relevant experience in human resources, payroll, benefits administration, personnel administration, or a related field. Relevant education and training may be considered in combination with experience.

🚨 Help Us Protect Jackson County’s Wastewater System 🚨

Over the past two Monday evenings, JCWSA has observed significant spikes in chemicals entering our wastewater system. These chemicals can disrupt the biological treatment process by harming the beneficial microorganisms that clean wastewater before it is safely returned to the environment. In some cases, we must reseed the treatment process with fresh microorganisms, resulting in additional costs and operational challenges.

We’re asking our community to help us protect this critical infrastructure.

If you see anyone dumping anything into a sanitary sewer manhole, or if you suspect someone is disposing of chemicals, large quantities of floor cleaners, pool water, or any other substances into the sanitary sewer system, please report it to us immediately. Likewise, if you notice suspicious activity involving tanker trucks or anyone using a hose to discharge materials into a sewer manhole, we’d like to know.

Even if you’re not certain an activity is illegal, we’d rather investigate a legitimate concern than miss something that could damage the wastewater treatment process.

We want to highlight an innovative public-education program developed by our friends at the Clayton County Water Authority.

**Attack of the F.O.G.** by Midnight Comics uses creative storytelling to educate customers about the damage caused by fats, oils, and grease (or F.O.G.) when they enter the sewer system.

Far too often, sewer providers must report spills and overflows ultimately caused by F.O.G.

When grease and cooking oil are poured down the drain, they cool, harden, and accumulate inside sewer lines, eventually contributing to blockages, backups, and costly spills.

Everyone can help protect our sewer system by always placing fats, oils, and grease in the trash and never down the drain. If the grease is hot, simply let it cool in a separate container before discarding.

Our drinking water mostly comes from the Bear Creek Reservoir and Water Treatment Facility, which is operated by the Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority, being a unique partnership of four local governments working together to provide a reliable, high-quality water supply for the region.

The facility is continuously monitored and tested by a dedicated team of certified operators and laboratory professionals who work around the clock to ensure the highest water quality standards are maintained. In May alone, plant staff performed more than 1,350 quality control and compliance tests while maintaining 100% regulatory compliance.

Yesterday was Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia.

We missed posting about it yesterday, but in our defense, we were busy operating the water system. That is pretty much how this work goes.

Most people do not think much about water until it is not there. They turn on the tap, flush the toilet, run a business, fill a glass, or drive past a creek or river and expect things to work. That does not happen by accident.

It takes operators, field crews, maintenance staff, lab personnel, engineers, customer service staff, administrative staff, and many others working together every day to keep clean water flowing and wastewater properly treated.

Much of this work happens quietly, often before sunrise, after hours, during storms, on holidays, and in places most people never see. But it matters every single day.

To all water and wastewater professionals across Georgia, and especially to our JCWSA team, thank you. Your work protects public health, supports our communities, and helps safeguard the environment we all share.
