At JCWSA, protecting public health starts long before water reaches your tap. Our drinking water mostly comes from the Bear Creek Reservoir and Water Treatment Facility, which is operated by the Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority, being a unique partnership of four local governments working together to provide a reliable, high-quality water supply for the region.

The facility is continuously monitored and tested by a dedicated team of certified operators and laboratory professionals who work around the clock to ensure the highest water quality standards are maintained. In May alone, plant staff performed more than 1,350 quality control and compliance tests while maintaining 100% regulatory compliance.

We are grateful for the outstanding Bear Creek team, whose expertise, professionalism, and commitment help provide safe, reliable drinking water to thousands of customers every day. Thank you for all you do!

Yesterday was Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia.

We missed posting about it yesterday, but in our defense, we were busy operating the water system. That is pretty much how this work goes.

Most people do not think much about water until it is not there. They turn on the tap, flush the toilet, run a business, fill a glass, or drive past a creek or river and expect things to work. That does not happen by accident.

It takes operators, field crews, maintenance staff, lab personnel, engineers, customer service staff, administrative staff, and many others working together every day to keep clean water flowing and wastewater properly treated.

Much of this work happens quietly, often before sunrise, after hours, during storms, on holidays, and in places most people never see. But it matters every single day.

To all water and wastewater professionals across Georgia, and especially to our JCWSA team, thank you. Your work protects public health, supports our communities, and helps safeguard the environment we all share.

We appreciate what you do.

Big shout-out to our wastewater crew for a quick repair on the Traditions force main.

Last weekend during the ice storm, a homeowner noticed a small leak in their front yard and called it in right away, and we’re grateful they did. That early heads-up helped us get on site quickly and make the repair as soon as conditions allowed.

We also want to thank J & K Utilities for their excellent help with this work. As you can see in the photos, the force main had old damage that likely dates back to the early 2000s when power was installed in the neighborhood. Normally power goes in after other utilities, but sometimes this kind of damage happens, and it’s an example of what our crews run into from time to time.

Thank you for trusting us as your water and sewer provider. We’re here to serve you.

Storm prep update: JCWSA is getting ready. We’re checking equipment, fueling generators, filling our tanks, coordinating staff coverage, and doing everything we can on our end.

We also want to be transparent: if we have widespread power outages across the region, some areas may experience low pressure or a temporary loss of water service. However, we will be working 24/7 to keep the water flowing as best we can. We’re not trying to alarm anyone, just making sure you have the info to plan for your household.

Quick, easy steps you can take before the storm arrives:
✅ Set aside extra drinking water (just in case).
✅ Fill your bathtub for emergency wash water + toilet flushing.
To flush your toilet with extra water in an emergency:
• Fill your bathtub before the storm.
• To refill your toilet with water, replace 1–2 gallons in your toilet tank after flushing using a bucket or dishpan.

We’ll share updates here if conditions change. Stay safe, everyone.
