Thank you to our Joplin network for bringing your energy and input to the Joplin Summit yesterday! Your perspective on the barriers to service in southwest Missouri are integral to the next thirty years of volunteerism.

As we head into our Cape Girardeau Summit in July, we wanted to share the four big questions we're asking you -

1. Where could AmeriCorps make the biggest impact in Missouri?
2. How do we ensure all generations have the opportunity to get involved in their community?
3. What Missouri needs or challenges are we missing?
4. How do we foster more public-private partnerships?

The Missouri Community Service Commission held it's Q2 Commission Meeting last week in Jefferson City to discuss a full agenda of recent wins and future goals.

We're grateful for each commissioner who was able to attend, as well as the staff who joined us in celebrating Show Me Service Awardee Patti Brayfield.

A special thanks to commissioner Dr. Robin L. Smith, EdD for supplying the cheesecake!

It's with Commissioner Dr. Robin L. Smith!

Appointed to the Missouri Community Service Commission by Governor Parson, Dr. Robin L. Smith brings a dynamic background as an entrepreneur, literacy coordinator, K–12 educator, and Associate Professor at Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Leadership, Middle, and Secondary Education.

Robin is passionate about volunteerism and the powerful sense of fulfillment and pride that emerges when communities and citizens come together. She enjoys collaborating with her fellow Commissioners to champion innovative initiatives and strengthen the impact of community groups across Missouri. Dr. Smith's philosophy is rooted in hope and resilience embedded in Dr. Robert Schuller's quote "What would you do if you knew you could not fail?"

Dr. Smith also actively volunteers by helping feed families through the Lasagna Love Program (https://lasagnalove.org/). We're proud to have you on the team, Robin!

We've been selected to join — a first-of-its-kind initiative where almost 1,000 young adults have served in schools and communities, building careers in behavioral health while supporting their peers. Proud to bring this work home.

“Missouri is proud to celebrate ServMO joining the Youth Mental Health Corps to help strengthen youth mental health support across our state and build the next generation of behavioral health professionals,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “Expanding access to mental health resources for our young people is critical to ensuring a stronger, healthier future for our state.”

Last month, Program Officer Lisa Embree Marshall traveled to the Lucille H. Bluford branch of the Kansas City Public Library where AmeriCorps Members are stationed at a tech support help desk. This is an incredible service to the community - designed to assist those who need to pay online bills, reset passwords, schedule travel accommodations, apply for jobs, and more.

We're so grateful to serve alongside the Kansas City Public Library!
