Old Munichburg Association

Old Munichburg Association The Old Munichburg Association is dedicated to the revitalization of Jefferson City’s historic Southside. Where are we?

The Old Munichburg Association promotes the development of Jefferson City’s Southside while preserving its unique historic legacy as a German-settled neighborhood. Munichburg is the historic core of Jefferson City's Southside. "Munichburg in the Southside" comprises approximately 14 blocks located south of the Rex Whitton Expressway (US 50/63); west of Monroe and Poplar Streets; north of Franklin

Street; and east of US 54 West. Throughout the district, Munichburg street banners welcome you to our neighborhood. The Old Munichburg Association also includes the rest of Jefferson City's Southside in its areas of interest for preservation. This larger district extends beyond the Munichburg core to include areas that are historically tied to the core. The "Southside" extends east to Jackson Street, south to Stadium Boulevard, and west to Myrtle Street to embrace Swifts Highway and the Panorama subdivision of Linden, Laurel, and Holly Drives. There's a map and much more information on our website, www.oldmunichburg.com.

— What School Was Like in the 1940s

📚 Broadway School in the 1940s looked very different.

• Boys wore long pants. Girls wore dresses.
• All shoes were leather.
• Classes had 30–35 students.
• Teachers were unmarried women.
• Students learned cursive using the Palmer Method.

Different time. Different expectations.

Which of these surprises you most?

Did you know !!

🏫 A school is more than a building.

The structure at Dunklin & Broadway was a public school from 1904–1955.

Many remember it as Carpenters Hall.
Today, it’s private apartments.

But for thousands of children, it was Broadway Elementary School.

Have you or your family ever attended school on the Southside?

Larry Kolb

🌟 Southside Spotlight: Legacy Leader 🌟

Today we recognize Larry Kolb for his role in revitalizing a block that once stood boarded up and in decline.

Through vision and hard work, efforts like his helped restore life and pride to areas that might otherwise have been lost. Revitalization takes courage, investment, and belief in the future of a neighborhood.

Old Munichburg continues to grow because of individuals willing to rebuild and restore.

Congratulations, Zachary Landwehr!
