🚨 COLE COUNTY WEATHER UPDATE – SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED TODAY (Wednesday, June 17) 🚨

The National Weather Service in St. Louis is monitoring the potential for severe thunderstorms across Missouri and Illinois today. Cole County is expected to be impacted during the afternoon and evening hours, with the potential for severe weather continuing into the overnight period.

⚠️ What to Expect
• Strong southwest winds this morning and afternoon before storms arrive
• Sustained winds of 20–30 mph with gusts of 40–50 mph under the Wind Advisory
• Severe thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening
• Damaging straight-line winds are the primary threat
• Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible
• Localized heavy rainfall and flash flooding cannot be ruled out

• Strong non-thunderstorm winds throughout the day
• Severe storm potential begins this afternoon, generally after 3 PM
• Highest threat period for Cole County appears to be late afternoon through evening
• Storms may continue into the overnight hours

• Damaging Winds: Greatest concern, with wind gusts potentially reaching 70+ mph in stronger storms
• Hail: Up to golf ball size possible
• Tornadoes: Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out, potentially strong (EF2+)

* At 933 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain
have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Jefferson City, California, Ashland, Columbia Regional Airport, St.
Martins, Russellville, Jamestown, Centertown, McGirk, Easley,
Hickory Hill, High Point, Marion, Lohman, Eugene, Hartsburg,
Elston, Wilton and Sandy Hook.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
