Amendment 6 Certified for November Ballot
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (September 3, 2026) — Today, the Supreme Court of Missouri ruled that Amendment 6 will be on the November 3, 2026, ballot.
The following statement can be attributed to Susan Klein, Executive Director:
The State of Missouri, consistent with the vision of our founding fathers, is a representative democracy. We elect senators and representatives to research and draft complex laws.
Amendment 6 would stifle this process and cripple representative democracy in Missouri forever.
Amendment 6 would severely limit and practically prohibit the legislature from placing issues on the ballot for voters' consideration. The amendment's broad and vague language would require 80% approval before the legislature could place any measure on the ballot that explicitly or implicitly modifies or undermines a law or constitutional amendment passed by initiative petition since 2010. It would also require 80% approval for any legislatively referred measure that is in any way similar to an issue that voters have rejected since 2010.
If passed, this amendment will pave the way for liberal out-of-state millionaires and billionaires to fund initiative petition campaigns with massive media efforts that will lie about the true effect of ballot measures. Once enacted, those measures could be nearly impossible for the legislature to correct, because Amendment 6 would effectively eliminate the state legislature's ability to place corrective measures on the ballot.
Let me be clear: Amendment 6 is an attack on representative democracy and a grave threat to Missouri.
