Always make sure a responsive, attentive adult is ACTIVELY watching tweens and teens too!

In 2024, 15 children drowned in Missouri. Of the 15 children who
drowned in Missouri, twelve were age four and under, one was age five to nine, one was age 10-14, and one was age 15-17.

Always make sure that a responsible, attentive adult is ACTIVELY monitoring children who are playing in or near water. Drowning is silent, so being present isn’t enough. Be AWARE.

Foster Parent Appreciation Month is coming to a close, but our appreciation for all of the caregivers who open their hearts and homes to children continues on. We couldn’t do it without our amazing foster parents like Liz Rider. She understands that behavioral challenges have solutions and works collaboratively with everyone involved to help youth develop new skills for communicating their needs. Liz firmly believes in second, third and even fourth chances. She knows that children must feel safe, comfortable and loved before true healing can begin. Liz never takes outbursts personally; instead, she recognizes that with time, patience and consistent care, children can begin fresh and rediscover their childhood dreams. She is an absolute joy to work with and provides a nurturing home where children can heal, learn, grow, and truly thrive. We offer our thanks to Liz and to all of our foster parents! As we observe Foster Parent Appreciation Month this May, we are recognizing our many dedicated foster parents like Carolyn Bowers. She is a strong, independent woman with a heartfelt mission to uplift and empower young girls, guiding them to grow into responsible, respectful women. In recognition of Foster Parent Appreciation Month we are honoring our many dedicated foster parents like Wendy and Kevin Bryant. They have been devoted foster parents for over 20 years, always going above and beyond for the children in their care. Despite facing immense personal challenges, Wendy never wavered in her commitment to helping children succeed. Every day, she prevails through new obstacles with strength, compassion and unwavering dedication. The Bryants are truly a blessing to the field of child welfare, and we are deeply grateful for this remarkable family and all they do for the youth who come into their home.

In observance of Foster Parent Appreciation Month we are recognizing our many dedicated foster parents like Amanda and Maximus McDevitt, who have been fostering for four years. They began as kinship foster parents for a specific youth and went on to complete additional licensing to welcome more youth into their home. They have since adopted three youth. Amanda and Maximus truly embody what it means to provide foster youth with stability, belonging, and a genuine sense of home.
