The Jefferson City Police Department and the City's property maintenance division are teaming up for Operation Spring Cleanup, which is an effort to address junked vehicles across the community.

WHAT IS A JUNKED VEHICLE?
Jefferson City Code defines a junked vehicle as:
- Non-operational
- Wrecked or dismantled
- Unlicensed or unregistered
- Improperly stored boats, trailers, or campers

Vehicles left on the street for more than 72 hours may be considered abandoned.

On-street vehicles are handled by JCPD.
Vehicles on private property are handled by City Code Enforcement/Property Maintenance.

Both teams work together to notify owners and provide time to resolve the issue before any vehicle is towed.

🚧 Park Improvement Notice 🚧

McKay Playground will be closed for about a week while we upgrade the safety surfacing. If you’ve visited recently, you may have noticed some wear and gaps between the tiles — that’s exactly what we’re fixing! We’re replacing the old tiles with pour-in-place rubber surfacing, which creates a smoother, safer play area for everyone.

📅 Planned closure: April 13–18 (weather dependent – if this schedule changes, we'll post updates here!)

Thanks for planning your play around this – we can’t wait to welcome you back to a safer, smoother playground very soon!

This Spring, the Jefferson City Police Department and the City's property maintenance division are teaming up for Operation Spring Clean, which is an effort to address junked and abandoned vehicles across the community.

Over the next few weeks, officers will be identifying vehicles that meet the definition of a junked motor vehicle under City Code, which includes:
- Vehicles left on a city street for more than 72 consecutive hours
- Vehicles that are wrecked, dismantled, non-operational, or unlicensed
- Certain boats, trailers, or campers that are improperly stored

Property owners and vehicle owners will receive notices and time to correct the issue before enforcement action occurs.

Jefferson City Fire Captain Kelly Forck dedicated nearly three decades of service to the Jefferson City community. We join the Jefferson City Fire Department in extending thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and all who had the honor to serve alongside him.

With heavy hearts, the Jefferson City Fire Department shares that retired Fire Captain Kelly Forck passed away yesterday.

Captain Forck gave 29 years of dedicated service to our community, beginning his career on March 17, 1997, and serving honorably through his retirement on June 24, 2025. He was a respected firefighter and leader who took great pride in his work.

Beyond the fire ground, Captain Forck served as a Special Inspector, where he was deeply committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and fellow firefighters. His contributions helped make our community a safer place.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who knew and served alongside him during this difficult time.
