April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize the more than 1.6 million children with parents serving in the U.S. armed forces. Like their service member parents, military children make meaningful sacrifices in support of our nation’s safety. This month, we honor and celebrate them, including the many who are part of Missouri’s military families.

We had the privilege of joining the U.S. Army and Governor Mike Kehoe yesterday, March 31, for a ribbon cutting celebrating the opening of the new General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital.

Upgraded facilities include a new hospital, clinic, ambulance garage, and central utility plant to replace the aging 1960s hospital to provide modern, patient-centered care for service members, retirees, and families at U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood.

We appreciate the efforts of partners, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Defense Health Agency, and JE Dunn Construction, to provide this significant investment in the health and readiness of our service members.

The Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission (MMPEC) held its latest quarterly meeting yesterday, September 9, 2025. We appreciate U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood and the Missouri National Guard for graciously providing space in Danner Hall as well as a tour of the fort's new hospital.

Huey Helicopter, UH-1B, 64-13908 has a new home and a fresh look. Congratulations to Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial in Perryville on a highly successful July 12th dedication ceremony.

Relocated from the former Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington and restored, the Huey once again rises above the memorial marker dedicated to Wentworth Military Academy graduate and Medal of Honor recipient U.S. Army Major William Adams and crew, KIA, Vietnam, May 25, 1971.

More than just a historic artifact, the aircraft tells a story of heroism and sacrifice and serves to remind us of the ultimate price paid by some for the freedoms we enjoy.

May God bless and protect all those serving in uniform. Thank you to Missouri Adjutant General, Major General Charles Hausman, as the keynote speaker and Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial and its board, along with the numerous other volunteers and donors who helped make this event possible.

SECDEF Hegseth and CJCS Gen Caine held a joint press conference at the Pentagon today. Watch Gen Caine’s comments regarding the bomber crews of both the active Air Force and the 131st Bomb Wing Missouri Air National Guard that carried out “Operation Midnight Hammer.”

For Operation Midnight Hammer, Missouri was the tip of the spear. All operational B-2 bombers are based at Whiteman Air Force Base, where the active-duty 509th Bomb Wing and 131st Bomb Wing Missouri Air National Guard train, fly, and maintain the fleet together for the United States Air Force.

Missouri’s Air Force doctors use advanced fatigue management to keep pilots mission-ready for the extreme longe-range flights.

From Airmen and aircraft to medical support, Missouri powers America’s nuclear-capable stealth bomber force.
