We came together for Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser Love the Boot Week on Saturday, April 18th and what a day it was. ❤️

In just one day, you showed what real community looks like. People showing up, working together, and taking pride in where we live… it meant everything.

To every volunteer who gave their time and energy; thank you. You didn’t just help clean up; you helped pour love back into Jeanerette... And it shows.

We are truly grateful for each of you. This is how we keep moving forward… together. ❤️💙🤍

Jeanerette…

Y’all know there’s a story that’s been sitting with us for years.

The day Marvin Gaye came to town.

The Railroad Avenue Historic Cultural District is putting together a short documentary to capture that moment — not from records, but from the people who remember it.

If you were there…
If you remember…
Or if someone in your family still talks about that day…

We want to hear from you.

We’re filming over the next 14 days right here in Jeanerette.

Be part of the documentary and help us preserve a piece of our story.

Send us a message, tag someone who should be part of this, or click the link below to fill out the form.

Today, we honor another group of women whose lives remind us what it looks like to pour into others and leave something lasting behind.

We celebrate Dr. Alverna M. Champion, a professor of Mathematics and Statistics and founder of the Family Math Festival. Her work is rooted in building confidence, knowledge, and opportunity especially for the next generation. She didn’t just teach… she created spaces where learning could feel alive.

We honor Tichina L. Rener-Arnold, a naturopathic doctor who reminds us that wellness is deeper than what we see on the surface. She represents a different kind of care… one that asks you to listen to your body, slow down, and return to yourself.

We recognize Peggy Parker, who has dedicated over two decades of service as a Chamber of Commerce board member. That kind of consistency… that kind of commitment… it quietly shapes the direction of an entire community.

And we celebrate Dr. Pearl Thompson Andrews, a Doctor of Philosophy and instructor at Southern University, whose presence in education has helped guide, inform, and elevate so many lives through knowledge.

This month we continue honoring the women of Jeanerette who are making history, breaking barriers, and inspiring the next generation. Their stories remind us that leadership, creativity, and perseverance live right here in our community.

Today we celebrate three remarkable women whose accomplishments continue to influence others.

We recognize Javashia Martin Guy, a talented digital culinary content creator, social media chef, and author who has built a powerful online presence with more than 280,000 followers. Through her creativity in the kitchen and her engaging content, she has turned her passion into a platform that inspires people far beyond Jeanerette.

We also celebrate Alice Johnson, who made local history as the first African American bank teller at First National Bank in Jeanerette. Her achievement opened doors and created opportunities that helped move our community forward.

And we honor Regina Alexander Ceasar, an author and the first Kwanzaa Queen, whose work celebrates culture, storytelling, and heritage. Through her writing and community involvement, she continues to uplift and educate.

These women represent the strength, vision, and influence of Jeanerette’s daughters. Each one, in her own way, is helping shape the story of our community.

During Women’s History Month, we proudly say thank you to the women who guide us, connect us, and influence the future of Jeanerette.
