Yesterday, we held the groundbreaking for the District 11 Fire Department’s new Central Station. For 14 years, we have worked to make this accomplishment a reality. Thank you to everyone who played a valuable role in this process.

When I became chief, I always had a vision of making this district better than it was when I arrived. There were many sleepless nights, hard days, and moments when I felt defeated, but through prayer and faith in God, He kept me going.

Now, we get to watch this station be built from the ground up until the day we are finally able to walk through its doors.

Again, thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible. Thank you to the community for always trusting our vision, and thank you to my family for understanding and supporting me, even during the times I missed so much while working toward this goal.

Ground breaking ceremony St Mary Fire District 11

05/17/2026

On May 16, 2026, four fire departments from two different parishes came together for a Live Fire Training exercise. A donated home located at 120 Fortier Lane was used to provide both new and veteran firefighters with valuable hands-on experience in realistic structure fire conditions.

During the training, firefighters practiced critical fire service skills, including:
• Ventilation
• Reading smoke conditions
• Understanding fire behavior and movement
• Proper water application techniques
• Communication and coordination with multiple agencies

These trainings are essential in preparing firefighters to respond safely and effectively during real emergencies.

Special thanks to:
• The homeowners for donating the residence
• Chief Clarence Clark (SMPFD11)
• Deputy Chief Mike Vincent (IPFD1)
• Training Chief Brett Doumit (IPFD1)
• Chief Sherry Landry (JFD)
• All firefighters and support staff from:
– St. Mary Fire District 11
– Chitimacha Fire Department
– Rynella Fire Department
– Jeanerette Fire Department

St. Mary Parish Fire District 11 extends its sincere thanks to TC Energy’s Indigenous Build Strong Program for funding the purchase of updated extrication equipment.

The equipment we replaced dated back to the early 1990s and was no longer capable of effectively assisting with today’s vehicle technologies. This upgrade greatly enhances our ability to respond safely and efficiently.

District 11 Fire remains committed to providing all travelers and residents within our district with the highest level of safety and emergency response equipment.
