๐Ÿ’š Beanie and his buddies were released today! ๐Ÿ’š
Watching them zoom off into the wild was bittersweet. They were strong, healthy, and ready, even when we werenโ€™t quite ready to let them go.๐Ÿ’š
Cottontail rabbits are a completely different species from domestic/pet rabbits. They may look delicate, but these little wild ones are incredibly fast and built for survival in the wild.

๐ŸขโคTurtle Takeover Day 7!โค๐Ÿข
If you need to move a turtle or tortoise out of an unsafe place, do not relocate them far away! While this may sound silly, there have been cases of rescuers bringing the turtle with them to their next stop, rather than only moving the Testudine across the road. Many of the Testudines we encounter in Florida typically have their own home ranges, sometimes as small as 2 acres. Their home ranges are the areas they are familiar with, meaning they know where to find food, water, and shelter. If they are moved, they may be incredibly disoriented. Plus, many species have incredible homing abilities, and will attempt to make their way back to their home range, which can put them in many unsafe situations. The best thing to do if you see a turtle or tortoise is leave them where they are, and if they are in the road, simply move them across the road, but not across town.โœจ

Fun Fact: Box Turtles have very long lives, often over 50 years, and tend to stay within a few hundred yards of their original hatch site!๐Ÿข

Meet Agave ๐Ÿ’š

Agave came to us after being found in the middle of the road. A huge thank you to her finder, Kayla, for not only stopping to look around but also asking people to see if there was any more. She learned from a neighbor that Agave had been out by the roadside since the day before. ๐Ÿ’” Thankfully, Kayla kept her safe and warm until we could get her.๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™d also like to thank our volunteer, Jessica, who stepped in to meet Kayla and transport this baby to safety.๐Ÿฉท

Weโ€™re not sure what happened to her mom, but we do know that she is now safe and thriving with new siblings.๐Ÿ’š

This is also an important reminder. This year, wildlife rehabilitators are seeing a large number of orphaned babies that have been fed by well meaning finders before reaching out to a rehabber. Unfortunately, many of these babies develop aspiration pneumonia or other complications from that and it can be difficult or sometimes impossible to treat.๐Ÿ’”

Please remember that Google, social media, and AI cannot replace the specialized care these babies need. While it can be heartbreaking to hear a baby cry, the best thing you can do is keep them warm, safe, and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately. Feeding them without proper training can do more harm than good.๐Ÿ’”

(210/250) The North American beaver is an impressive engineer of its environment, known for building dams, lodges and transforming landscapes into thriving wetlands. Beavers help create habitats that benefit countless other species, including frogs, fish, birds and insects. This time of year, beavers are busy raising young.

Opossums are one of our more docile wildlife neighbors, and itโ€™s a good thing, they actually have 50 teeth, more than any other North American land mammal. As marsupials, that impressive set of chompers could do some real damage if they werenโ€™t so chill!๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’š

Otters are playful, intelligent and deeply social animals. But behind viral videos, many are taken from the wild and forced into a life of captivity.

This World Otter Day, letโ€™s remember that wild animals belong in the wild.
