FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On May 20, 2026, at approximately 6:04 PM, deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 64 west of State Road 161.

Upon arrival, deputies located a white Ford pickup truck positioned sideways in the roadway. A second vehicle had left the roadway and came to rest down an embankment. The driver of the second vehicle was trapped inside the vehicle. Two juvenile passengers had already been removed by first responders and were receiving medical attention at the scene.

During the investigation, emergency personnel advised deputies that the driver of the second vehicle had succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as 36-year-old Dana Strohmeyer of Jasper. Family notifications have been made.

Indiana State Police crash reconstructionist responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the white Ford pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic prior to the collision.

Two juveniles from the second vehicle were transported to Deaconess Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the white Ford pickup truck was identified as 37-year-old Nathan P. Simpson of Evanston. During the on-scene investigation, deputies conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on observations made during the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for blood and urine samples.

Simpson has been charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Resulting in Death, a Level 4 Felony. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

The Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police, Huntingburg Fire Department, Deaconess EMS and Sternberg’s Wrecker Service.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office through dispatch 812-482-9111.

Crosby cashed in his Spring Carnival prize: Dodgeball with police officers.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office had a great time spending the afternoon with the students and staff at Northeast Dubois Elementary. What we weren’t prepared for was FOUR full games of dodgeball. Safe to say, the kids and staff came ready to compete……..AND showed absolutely no mercy on the deputies.

Thanks for letting us join in on the fun, and being good sports, although some of us may need an ice pack tomorrow!

It’s hard to put into words just how incredible today was for our first year participating in this event! Our community exceeded anything we could have imagined.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the entire Dubois County community for the incredible support shown today during Cop on a Rooftop with Dunkin’ to benefit Special Olympics Indiana! Because of your generosity, kindness, and willingness to give back, we are proud to announce that together we raised over $4,500 between the Jasper and Ferdinand Dunkin’ locations. (Guys- this doesn’t include the QR code dollar amount yet, either)

Seeing our community come together for such an amazing cause made for a truly special and memorable morning. Your support directly helps Special Olympics athletes right here in our area, and we cannot thank you enough for making this event such a success. Seeing the athletes participate with us, and see their smiles, and how much they enjoyed this just as much as we did, was definitely one thing to be proud of! ☕️🍩🚔

A special thank you to everyone who donated, stopped by, shared encouragement, and helped make the day possible!

During Law Enforcement Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the men and women who proudly serve and protect our county every single day.

While many families are gathered around the dinner table, celebrating holidays, birthdays, ball games, and special moments together, our deputies are often answering calls, working long shifts, and putting the safety of others before themselves. Their sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

To our deputies, THANK YOU for the missed holidays, the late nights, the interrupted family time, and the countless hours you dedicate to keeping our community safe. Your commitment, courage, and service mean more than words can express.

Thank You for your dedicated service to our county!

**Deputies Weisman and Eckert started off police week by spending their off time talking to Ireland PreK! **
