BENT TREE FIRE DEPARTMENT - HOME FIRE SAFETY INSPECTIONS

Our team is pleased to announce that we now offer complete home fire safety inspections to Bent Tree residents! Inspections include assessments of home exteriors and the 30-foot ignition zone around home perimeters. These assessments will include recommendations of potential fuels to remove and basic maintenance actions to protect your home from wildfire. During interior inspections, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, egress paths, electrical safety, and many more items will be assessed with recommendations and other fire safety information provided to the residents involved.

The information gathered by our department during these inspections will also allow us to create pre-fire plans for homes to help guide our response actions during structure fires. Please email [email protected] or [email protected] if you would like to schedule an inspection. Although email is preferable, you may also contact us at 770-893-2628.

Below is a link to our fillable Residential Pre Incident Survey form, which will be completed during inspections. Residents who do not wish to schedule an inspection may complete the form themselves and return to us. There are places on the form to insert exterior photos of each side of your home, digital floorplans, and any special photos, such as Propane tank locations or accessibility problems. There is also a checklist included for both the Firewise survey and general fire safety questions. This information will be kept confidential and will aid us in our fire response planning and maintaining our ISO rating.

LOOK OUT FOR BABY DEER!
You will soon start seeing baby deer throughout the community. Baby deer (fawns) are frequently left by themselves, sometimes in strange places. Here is some info and basic guidance if you see one alone and are concerned:

1. Mother deer leave fawns alone while they go find food. Sometimes you will see the mother nearby but not always. Fawns may be left alone for several hours. Don’t assume that a fawn left alone has been abandoned. Fawns generally lay down and wait for their mother to return but can walk.

2. If you see a fawn by itself and it is in a safe area (woods, yard, etc.), simply stay away from it and NEVER TOUCH IT. By going near the fawn, you can potentially scare the mother away and prevent or delay them from being reunited. You can notify our team of the fawn, and we will be happy to recheck the area after several hours have passed.

3. If you see a fawn in a dangerous area, like very close to a road or under a vehicle, please notify us immediately at 770-893-2628. We will respond to determine if further actions are needed.

4. Bear cubs and fawns are very active right now, so please follow our speed limit of 20 MPH and WATCH OUT FOR THEM. Wildlife activity is very heavy on Bent Tree Drive as well, so safe driving should not cease when you leave our community. Paying close attention to the road ahead is very important.
