The weather was hot this past weekend, we made it an inferno. Alabama Fire College brought their fun wagon for us to play with and get some great training in to better serve our community. Well done to all those that participated, helped out, and encouraged.

A special thank you to Suburban Propane for donating the fuel for our fire!

Today, we pause to honor the life and service of Assistant Chief Richard Meeks of the Curry Fire & Rescue family, a man who dedicated so much of his life to serving others through the fire service and protecting his community.

Richard dedicated countless hours to protecting, training, and serving his community with courage, leadership, and a servant’s heart. His impact reached far beyond emergency calls — he was a mentor, a brother to many in the fire service, and a man who answered the call whenever others were in need.

Richard’s passion for helping people was evident in everything he did. Whether he was answering the call in the fire service or working alongside our schools to improve emergency plans and safety procedures, he always put others first. He cared deeply about making sure students, staff, and our community were prepared and protected.

His dedication, leadership, and drive to help others will never be forgotten. Richard made a lasting impact on countless lives, and his legacy will continue through the people he mentored, trained, served alongside, and the community he helped keep safe.

From all of us at Boldo Fire & Rescue Department, we extend our deepest prayers and condolences to the Meeks family, his brothers and sisters at Curry Fire, and everyone whose life he touched.

The fire service is a family, and today our hearts grieve alongside the Meeks family and our brothers and sisters at Curry Fire. Please keep his family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13

Rest easy, Richard.
We’ll take the watch from here.

FIRE WEATHER WATCH ALERT

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Fire Weather Watch for our area beginning Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Dry conditions combined with increasing winds will create a high risk for rapidly spreading fires across Walker County and surrounding areas.

Conditions Expected:
• Winds: 10–15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph
• Relative Humidity: As low as 24%
• Ongoing drought conditions

What This Means:
These conditions make it very easy for fires to start and spread quickly. Even small sparks can become dangerous.

Safety Reminders:
• Avoid all outdoor burning
• Do not burn debris or trash
• Use extreme caution with grills and equipment
• Never discard ci******es on the ground
• Report smoke or fire immediately

Boldo Fire & Rescue urges everyone to take this warning seriously and help prevent wildfires in our community.

Stay alert. Stay safe.
