Due to ongoing drought conditions across Georgia, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has issued a Statewide Level 1 Drought Response Declaration for public water systems.
This means Pickens County is now under Level 1 Drought Response conditions.
At this level, there are no mandatory restrictions, but residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to practice water conservation and be good stewards of our water resources.
A Level 1 response focuses on awareness and everyday conservation efforts, including:
β’ Regularly checking for and repairing leaks inside and outside your home
β’ Turning off the tap while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes
β’ Only watering landscaping when necessary and avoiding runoff onto roads or sidewalks
Outdoor Watering Guidelines:
General landscape watering is allowed between 4:00 PM and 10:00 AM daily
The following activities may be done at any time:
β’ Watering personal food gardens
β’ Watering new plants, seed, or turf (up to 30 days after installation)
β’ Drip irrigation or soaker hoses
β’ Hand watering with a hose that has an automatic shutoff
This declaration is intended to reduce strain on water resources as drought conditions persist across the state.
