The Walker Area Community Foundation is a nonprofit, grantmaking organization building the permanent capital needed in our area to daily facilitate community conversations, inspire action, and empower partners. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, and helped by you our stakeholders, this foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations impacting educational, cultural, civic, public and ot

her charitable needs of the Walker County area. The Community Foundation is here to stay. We invest in the present to secure the future for my children, your children and all future generations. Forever, we will award grants to make an impact, lead to further our community and provide a conduit for your gifts to collectively make a difference. Humans have an innate desire to help others. For many of us there is never enough time or money to individually answer the almost overwhelming needs of our community. Needs that only a combined effort can meet. Because of this foundation you do not have to go it alone. Together, we can take on those seemingly overwhelming tasks that are beyond most individuals. We all love our community…we can’t help ourselves.

Move-In Day is here for our 2026 Summer Interns!

We're excited to officially welcome this year's interns to Walker County. Over the coming weeks, they will experience all that makes our community special while building connections and gaining hands-on experience.

We're also excited to welcome back Edward Fountain as the 2026 supervising intern. Edward will help lead and support this summer's interns throughout their experience.

If you see Edward and the interns around town this week, be sure to say hello and help us give them a warm welcome.

Stay tuned as we introduce our 2026 interns on social media in the coming weeks.

This Walker Wednesday, we’re highlighting the Literacy Council of Central Alabama and the incredible work they are doing across our community. They serve children, teens, and adults with literacy support that builds confidence, strengthens skills, and creates real opportunities at every stage of life.

Watch until the end to learn how you can get involved, whether that is donating books or volunteering your time, and help support the important work they are doing right here in our community.

This Walker Wednesday takes us inside the beautifully restored White House on Fifth Museum & Gallery in downtown Jasper, a historic home with deep roots in our community and a new purpose.

Gifting this home back to the community, the Walker Area Community Foundation has helped create a place where exhibits, artifacts, and a dedicated gallery highlight the story of Walker County.

The museum is now open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a closure from 12:00 to 1:00 for lunch, and the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Visit whitehouseonfifth.org for more information.
