Got the rest of the siding off! We rented a lift to take the upper siding off. We were also able to repurpose the siding by having a couple different people come by and take what they needed. Very little went to the dump. 😎

Took the moisture content of the wood, and we should be good to go with painting later in July. (Despite all the rain we are getting this summer...)

Some more spring activity is taking off the plastic siding and going back to the "original" wood siding. Not sure how much has been replaced over the years, though! Here is some of the progress so far.

We had to take down the Paradise Apple tree last fall because it was just looking more and more sad. This spring we planted a native Wisconsin tree called a Hackberry.

We began the long process of replacing the porches and taking off the siding this fall. The wood was rotting on the front porch and it was unsafe. We decided to go with composite materials on the porches to keep things uniform and to hopefully last a long time. We went with Azek for the decking and Fypon for the columns, spindles and rails. We are trying to bring back the main doors on the house to what they probably looked like which was having a Queen Anne window pattern. We were tired of looking at the cloudy plexiglass, so we found a local artisan named Carol. She has experience in woodworking and stained glass. This was her first time doing this, but she has an older home herself so she was amazing to work with!

Most of the house has picture rail, but the upstairs hallway did not. We decided to add some in to give it warmth and to keep consistency. It turned out to be a few day project (whenever we had a chance after work) due to the odd angles and us being novices. But we got it done!
