Fleet Friday!! Rescue 241

FLEET FRIDAY: RESCUE 241

This week on Fleet Friday, let's talk about our big toolbox. Rescue 241 is a 1996 Freightliner/E-One and if you're an old timer like me, you might recognize this truck as Rescue 91 from . Now christened Rescue 241, this truck responds second out the door on all car wrecks and EMS incidents. It also helps us refill our air bottles on a fire scene.

Why do we call it our big red toolbox? There's something different about this truck that the Engine and Tanker can't claim. This truck carries no water or fire hose. Every compartment is jampacked with all kinds of tools, like the jaws of life, hand tools, drills, saws, and a light tower on the roof. We even keep a bunch of kitty litter and a giant Jenga set on here for when those neighborhood block parties get a little rowdy.

FLEET FRIDAY: TANKER 241

This week we're going to talk about our mobile swimming pool, Tanker 241. Our tanker is a 2003 GMC/McGinley that holds 2,000 gallons of water. This truck is used for water supply in areas without a fire hydrant close by. Sometimes we have to bring all of our water with us to fight the fire.

Tanker 241 doesn't carry a lot of special tools or hose, but it one of our most important trucks. It's usually the first truck out the door when our neighbors call for help. We call that mutual aid. A little uno reverse, the first trucks we ask our neighbors to bring are usually their tankers too. We can't fight fire without water!

FLEET FRIDAY: ENGINE 241

Engine 241 is a 2012 Freightliner/Spencer pumper that carries 1,000 gallons of water. That's like showing up 20 full bathtubs to help put the fire out. Our engine is the first truck out the door on most of our incidents. It carries a lot of fire hose, air packs, hand tools, EMS equipment, and even extrication equipment, which you may know as the jaws of life.

Have you ever wondered why a fire truck shows up when you call for an ambulance? The short answer is we bring a lot of people, a lot of tools, and a big red road block with us for your safety and ours. When we get the call, it can be difficult to know exactly what we're going to at first or what we're going to need when we get there. We'd rather be prepared to help you than need to call all of our friends for help too.

We had a blast at FDIC!! The cadets got to try the latest and greatest in the fire service. Thanks to their generosity and everyone who came out to support our Dine to Donate night, they donated $200 to help our cadets continue learning, growing, and serving our community. ❤️

It was truly amazing to see our community come together to support our Cadet Program. Your support means the world to these young individuals who are learning to serve, lead, and give back. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

We are still waiting on the final numbers, and the donation total will be shared with us later this week or early next week—so stay tuned! 👀

The Jamestown Fire Cadets held their March meeting at the firehouse yesterday, March 15, and had a great discussion about fundraising ideas and what they would like to do with the money they raise.

They came up with some really exciting ideas for upcoming events, so be watching for announcements soon — we think the community is really going to love what they have planned!

We are still accepting applications for the cadet program. If you know a young person who wants to serve their community, learn valuable skills, and be part of an amazing team, please reach out using the contact information on the flyer.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Beech Grove Police Department and the entire community as they mourn the loss of Officer Brian Elliot.

We stand with our brothers and sisters in blue during this incredibly difficult time. The courage and sacrifice of those who serve will never be forgotten.

From all of us with the Jamestown Fire Department Cadet Program, we send our deepest condolences to Officer Elliot’s family, friends, and fellow officers.
