Luke Zimmer came to Jamestown to play baseball at the University of Jamestown, but his time here opened the door to a career that combines his interests in history, communication, and working with people.

As Site Supervisor at the Frontier Village, Luke helps preserve and share an important part of the community with residents and visitors. One of his biggest career milestones so far has been helping bring the Bison Bend Mini Golf Course to life.

❌ Myth: Bison are just another type of buffalo.

✅ Busted!

While many Americans casually call them "buffalo," the animals native to North America are actually bison.

True buffalo live in Africa and Asia:

African Cape buffalo
Asian water buffalo
The American bison evolved here in North America and is a different species altogether.

That said... you're not wrong if you call them buffalo! Indigenous peoples, settlers, and many ranchers have used the name "buffalo" for centuries, so both terms remain part of our history.

Did you know? The scientific name is Bison bison.
