Pickett State Park Recognized with Statewide Award for Excellence in Amenities.

We are proud to share that Pickett State Park has received a statewide award recognizing our work in the area of amenities. This honor reflects the dedication and ongoing effort of our staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters to preserve, improve, and maintain the facilities and recreational opportunities throughout the park.

Over the past year, significant work has been completed across Pickett, including:

• Trail improvements at Pogue Creek Canyon, Hazard Cave, Natural Bridge, Bluff Trail, Hidden Passage, and Colditz Cove

• Replacement and repair of bridges, boardwalks, stairs, and trail structures

• Maintenance and restoration of park facilities, including the Maintenance Shop, CCC Picnic Area Bathhouse, and the Suspension Bridge

• Improvements to the CCC Recreation Lodge and Boathouse

• ADA accessibility improvements throughout the park

• Storm damage recovery and hazardous tree removal

• New visitor amenities, including a colorblind viewing device and the Early Reader Nature Trail

A special thank you goes to the Amish volunteers who have contributed their time and exceptional craftsmanship to projects throughout the park. Their willingness to lend a hand has helped us complete important work while providing significant savings in labor costs. Along with our other dedicated volunteers, their contributions have allowed us to accomplish more with the resources available to us.

We also want to sincerely thank East Tennessee Maintenance for their continued support of Pickett State Park. Their assistance and partnership have been invaluable as we work to maintain and preserve the park’s facilities and amenities.

These projects represent more than improvements to buildings and trails. They are an investment in preserving the character, history, natural resources, and recreational experiences that make Pickett State Park special.

This award belongs to everyone who has helped us preserve, improve, and care for Pickett State Park. We are proud of the work that has been accomplished and even more excited about what is ahead.

🐻 A sweet wildlife moment at Pickett CCC Memorial State Park!

Our staff recently spotted a mother black bear and her three cubs enjoying the sassafras trees. Bears are especially fond of sassafras berries, and it's always a treat to witness these natural behaviors from a safe distance.

If you're lucky enough to encounter a bear while visiting, remember to admire them from afar, never approach or feed them, and give them plenty of space—especially a mother with cubs.

We love sharing moments like these that remind us just how wild and special Pickett truly is!

The weather forecast for tonight's night sky program does not look good. It will be 80-100% cloud cover. Rangers will be at the field but it is unlikely that we will see anything tonight. Please note that we will be scheduleing additional night sky programs at least monthly. Thank you.

UPDATE: All trails that were closed due to flooding over a week ago are now open!

A big thank you to our dedicated park staff for making this possible.

Due to heavy rainfall and flooding throughout the park, the Lake Trail, Bluff Trail, Lake View Trail, and Ladder Trail are closed until further notice.

In addition, boat rentals have been suspended, and the swimming beach is closed until further notice.

If you are planning to visit Pickett CCC Memorial State Park, please use extreme caution. Our park rangers are currently assessing trail and park conditions throughout the park to ensure visitor safety.
