Stonewall Warriors

Stonewall Warriors Stonewall Means Fight Back! We have been marching in Pride and defending oppressed communities for decades. Our solidarity is class wide
and has no borders.

This year we are organizing around this unity statement

This year our LGBTQ community stands in
solidarity with those who have fought back
against oppression and unjust persecution. We honor those both in our LGBTQ, allied and
other communities. Because of the serious
economic crises we face and the daily torrent of
harassment and acts of violence against our
community, youth, People of Color,

women,
Immigrants and people with physical or other
disabilities, we cannot justify fighting for single
issues and ignoring the overlap and intersections
among multiple forms of oppression. By honoring CeCe McDonald, Trayvon Martin,
Private B. Manning and Tarek Mehanna, we
oppose not only bigotry against LGBTQ people
but racism, incarceration of political prisoners,
unemployment, Islamophobia and the
Pentagon war machine.

“The Stonewall Rebellion of 1969 was ignited by q***r and trans youth of color who were already active in the struggles against racism, war and economic injustice that were raging in the late 1960s. So, in truth, this is what the struggle for trans liberation is all about: fighting shoulder-to-shoulder to bring about real change. Let’s revive the spirit of Stonewall, and with the memory of our fallen comrades in our hearts, let’s fight like hell for real, lasting justice, solidarity and power for all the people.”

Dozens of q***r, trans, intersex, two-spirit, nonbinary people and their supporters gathered Feb. 24 at City Hall in North Adams, Mass., to speak out about the wave of trans murders reported in the…

cw: murder of a trans woman
>> The Network/La Red has a hotline for members of the LGBTQ, polyamorous, and sadomasochism (SM) communities to talk about their experiences and relationships or for people who were triggered or traumatized by the death of Christa. The number is 617-742-4911 (voice), 617-227-4911 (TTY), and 800-832-1901 (toll-free). It is open 24 hours from Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, The Network/La Red offers support groups, housing assistance through its housing pathways program, and advocacy for survivors of abuse. The Network/La Red also provides trainings and technical assistance to organizations, especially domestic violence organizations, that want to move towards being more inclusive of the LGBTQ, polyamorous, and sadomasochism communities. Services and resources are also offered in Spanish. Organizations such as Safe Passage in Northampton, Jane Doe Inc.. in Boston, and the New England Learning Center for Women in Transition - NELCWIT in Greenfield also provide services for victims of intimate partner violence.

Voting opened today for Boston pride 2018 themes and marshals. We promoted an internet action from Stonewall Warriors social media earlier this Fall to nominate radical and revolutionary themes centered around the spirit of Stonewall and fighting white supremacy. The themes that made it to final voting are:
- Rainbow Resistance
- Resist with Pride
- Remember the Past, Create the Future
- Take Action: Stand Up for Pride!
- Trans Lives Matter
- The Fight's Not Over
- One Community, Many Faces

Stonewall Warriors views this is a testament to both our collective organizing work over the past months and to the mood at the grass roots of the LGBTQ Movement and social justice movements more broadly.

Obviously, all of these finalist slogans are problematic. “Trans Lives Matter” is an unacceptable slogan that anti-racist white trans people must oppose and help explain as a serious affront to . A slogan such as , uplifting intersectional Black trans lives and experience would be one thing, but erasing Black people from the political demands of the LGBTQ movement would be an abhorrent misstep for Boston Pride.

The other proposed themes can be viewed in one sense as language almost directly taken from HRC and Democratic Party co-opting and perhaps even pinkwashing of grass roots resistance to white supremacy in the Trump era.

As always, there’s more work to do to raise a platform of revolutionary q***r and trans-liberation politics, intersectional visibility and vocal solidarity with all oppressed communities.

But it is both interesting and very heartening to see the Pride Committee get pushed in this combative activist direction from its milquetoast "stronger together" theme of 2017.✊️✊️✊️

Update: MA House voted to override Baker’s RAFT and section 8 line item cuts, restoring all of the original budget funding to the programs for which ACT-UP was protesting cuts (still not enough to meet peoples needs!) - but we wait to see how the MA Senate votes on this.

Keep up the solidarity and pressure! ✊️ ACT UP. Fight back. Fight AIDS!
