The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council (JPNC) is a volunteer organization that offers the people of Jamaica Plain the opportunity to participate directly and fully in governing neighborhood affairs. The Council brings together a cross-section of Jamaica Plain’s diverse community to make decisions and recommendations regarding development, service delivery, and other public issues in our shared nei
ghborhood. Since 1995, the JPNC has worked to increase and improve communication between the entire Jamaica Plain community, the City of Boston, and other public agencies and parties. Elections to the 20-member council are held every two years, with members representing three different geographic areas and Jamaica Plain in its entirety. Council meetings are typically held on the last Tuesday of each month and are open to the public. We encourage members of the community to become involved by attending these meetings, proposing agenda items, speaking on current topics, and joining the Council’s different working committees. The JPNC does its work through an Executive Committee and working committees made up of council members and community participants. Each committee reviews issues and concerns brought to it and makes recommendations to the full Council, and committees also initiate investigation of issues and concerns within their respective jurisdictions. The working committees include: The Housing and Development Committee; The Parks and Open Spaces Committee; The Zoning Committee; The Public Service Committee; and The Jackson Square CAC.
