The pre-application for the Section 8/HCV Program Waiting List administered by the Jacksonville Housing Authority is open Sept 4-30, 2023. By submitting your application, you acknowledge your interest in the program, certifying all information submitted is true and accurate. We will send you a letter acknowledging your application and contact you for more information to qualify or disqualify you from consideration for a voucher.

You can apply online through our portal or download and print a paper application at [Jacksonville Housing Authority](https://jhatx.org) If you need to pick up a paper application, our hours of operation and address are below. If we are closed, applications will be located outside our door. You can return a paper application by email at intake.org, by fax at (903) 586-7554, or in person. DO NOT LEAVE COMPLETED APPLICATIONS OUTSIDE OF OUR DOOR.

General Process:
Once you qualify, you are added to the waiting list for a voucher. As funding becomes available for your voucher, we will notify you to attend a voucher briefing. After the briefing is completed, you will be issued a voucher.

Once we contact you for more information or to issue a voucher, time is of the essence. Respond as quickly as possible and before the deadline listed. If there is a significant lag in your response, we get returned mail, or you do not respond at all, you will be removed from consideration, and you must apply again the next time our list opens.

Setting Expectations -- This is NOT a quick or swift process, and immediate help is NOT available. It is possible your wait on our list can be year(s) long. We will process and issue vouchers as quickly as possible, but please be prepared to:
1. Wait an undetermined amount of time
2. Keep us updated in writing or through the portal with your contact information

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9a-12p - Walk-ins are welcome, and it is the best time to return paperwork or come into the office. 1p-5p - by Appointment ONLY

What number am I on the waiting list? We cannot tell you exactly; please do not ask. Per HUD, those with "very low" income are helped first. Per our administration plan, local preferences will then be applied. In addition, those who do not respond to our inquiries are removed from the list and in doing so others are moved up.
