Retired Police Sergeant James Lucien Pfeiffer passed away on Sunday June 1, 2025, at the age of 91. At the time of his passing, he was dealing with complications from heart related issues.
Sgt. Pfeiffer was born in Jacksonville, FL. and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School.
After high school, he joined the United States Army from 1953 – 1955.
He worked for Southern Bell in Jacksonville before joining the Sheriff’s Office
Sgt. Pfeiffer moved to Jacksonville and joined the Old Jacksonville County Road Patrol in October 1959 and started his career as a Patrolman and promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1962. He remained with the agency through consolidation. In 1970, he was assigned to the State Attorney’s Office as a Special Investigator until 1974. He was then transferred to Narcotics where he worked as a supervisor until he retired in January 1981.
Sgt. Pfeiffer served 21 years with the agency.
After retirement, he immediately went to work for Pic N Save as the Director of Security for the company in the Southeast until 1996 when the company closed their stores.
Sgt. Pfeiffer then worked for the Argenbright Security company as an area manager and River City security afterwards.
He remained retired after working for River City and enjoyed quality time with his family and friends until his passing.
Sgt Pfeifer is survived by his wife (Gloria) of nearly 70 years of marriage, his daughters (Lynda Wagoner and Susan Thompson) and four grandchildren.
Memorial service: Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1p.m. at the Arlington Park Funeral Home and Cemetery (6920 Lone Star Rd.)
Sgt. Pfeiffer will be cremated at a later date.
The United States Army and J.S.O. Honor Guards will be rendering honors. Chaplain Clarance Jarrell will be present as well
