Today, we joined Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department, City of Jacksonville, Florida - Government and our community partners to celebrate the opening of the new Fire Station 48 at Blount Island.

JAXPORT partnered with the City to help secure federal funding for the project because relocating and modernizing Station 48 was an investment in the entire community. More than three times the size of the original station and now located outside JAXPORT’s secured terminal perimeter, the new facility is better positioned to support firefighters and provide reliable emergency response for our military partners, port stakeholders and neighboring communities.

“When JAXPORT approached us with an opportunity to apply for a Department of Defense grant to help with the new and improved Station 48, we saw it as a smart investment opportunity in our future,” said Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan.

“Fifty years ago, this station opened its doors for the first time as a safety resource. And today, it opens again stronger, better, and equipped to serve the next generation of Jacksonville,” said JFRD Director/Fire Chief Percy Golden II.

The Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation’s partnership and federal investment helped make today possible. We also want to thank Mayor Deegan, the Jacksonville City Council, and the entire City team for the partnership that enabled this project.

Most importantly, thank you to the firefighters of Station 48 for your service, courage and dedication. May this new facility serve you—and our entire community—safely and well for generations to come.

More capacity ➕ greater efficiency 🟰 stronger supply chains.

Following more than $100 million in improvements, SSA Marine has expanded capacity and enhanced operations at the SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal.

With annual capacity now exceeding 650,000 containers (TEUs)—and the air-draft project scheduled for completion later this year—the terminal is positioned to serve larger vessels more efficiently and support continued economic growth for the region and state.

Eight locomotives. One heavy-lift move 🚂🌎

Eight retired CSX locomotives recently traveled through JAXPORT on their way to a new owner in Peru.

With a direct CSX connection, on-dock rail access and load capacity of 2,000 pounds per square foot, Blount Island was ideally equipped to handle the move.

Specialized infrastructure and expertise make moves like this possible, connecting oversized and project cargo with global markets, including South America.
