JAXPORT is an independent government agency created by the Florida legislature to manage upkeep, improvement and expansion of Port Authority facilities.

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), an independent government agency created by the Florida legislature, operates primarily as a landlord, managing the upkeep, improvement and expansion of Port Authority facilities and coordinating their use by private companies. JAXPORT owns and manages three public marine terminals and one passenger cruise terminal in Jacksonville Florida: the Blount Island Marine Terminal, the Talleyrand Marine Terminal, the Dames Point Marine Terminal, and the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal. JAXPORT develops, manages and markets those publicly-owned facilities to promote the growth of maritime and related industries in Jacksonville Florida and beyond. JAXPORT also offers year-round cruise ship service aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' ship Carnival Fascination. The Carnival Fascination sails from the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal. Employee Spotlight ✨ James Baity has gone to great heights to keep JAXPORT’s headquarters running smoothly—sometimes literally. We’re proud to recognize him for 30 years of service.

As Building Foreman, James cares for the headquarters where most of our administrative staff work. He handles everything from HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems to structural repairs and facility improvements.

With three decades of hands-on experience, James often spots and solves problems before they grow. His remarkable attention to detail is also on display in the custom furniture he has built for our lobby and boardroom.

James, thank you for the pride you take in your work and for all you’ve done for JAXPORT.

Florida’s economy continues to grow, and Jacksonville’s diverse mix of industries positions the region well.

According to JAX Partnership transportation and logistics and advanced manufacturing have led job growth throughout the region over the past several years.

JAXUSA President Aundra Wallace discussed those trends at a business development event hosted by JAX Chamber and St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce.

“The port has done a great job deepening the channel and bringing in bigger ships. It’s really helped us create more jobs in transportation and logistics,” Wallace said.

JAXPORT’s continued investments help support that momentum by connecting Northeast Florida businesses to markets around the world.

At this week’s meeting, the JAXPORT Board approved a six-year lease renewal with Jacksonville Port Terminal Railroad, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Watco. The agreement also includes four optional one-year renewals.

Through Jacksonville Port Terminal Railroad, Watco operates the on-dock rail system at JAXPORT’s Talleyrand Marine Terminal, providing direct connections to CSX and Norfolk Southern and helping move a wide range of cargo to and from the port.

With Watco’s continued partnership, we look forward to building on our work together to keep cargo moving in Jacksonville.

As more ocean carriers adopt alternative fuels like Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), JAXPORT continues to support the industry's transition to lower-emission shipping.

JAXPORT partners TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico and Crowley have helped lead this transition, operating LNG-powered vessels between Jacksonville and San Juan and demonstrating how cleaner fuels can support reliable cargo service.

A new roadway at JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal will carry forward the legacy of James Bennett, our former chief operating officer.

Today, the JAXPORT Board approved construction of a new western entrance and security plaza and named the roadway ‘James Bennett Way’ in recognition of Bennett, who helped develop the project. The new entrance will improve traffic flow and provide another access point to the port’s busiest cargo terminal.

Additional tributes honoring Bennett include the James Bennett Memorial Endowed Scholarship at the University of North Florida, which will support students studying transportation and logistics and engineering, and a permanent U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District survey marker that will support future construction and navigation projects. City of Jacksonville, Florida - Government City Council President Nick Howland presented a City Council resolution honoring Bennett’s life and contributions to the community.

Bennett’s wife, Kim, joined today’s Board meeting to accept the commemorative items on behalf of the Bennett family.
