MacMurray College Library is mourning the loss of our dear friend and library supporter; retired Professor Emeritus of History, Dr. Rand Burnette. Dr. Burnette taught history at MacMurray College from 1968 – 2002. After he retired, Dr. Burnette kept active reviewing history books for Southern Illinois University Press for which Pfeiffer Library received many donations on his behalf.
Rand and his wife, Dr. Patricia Burnette ’59, were frequent visitors to Pfeiffer Library during the late 2000’s as he assisted Pat with her research for the book titled, James F. Jaquess: Scholar, Soldier and Private Agent for President Lincoln. James Jacquess also was the first President of Mac Murray College.
Over the years Rand has blessed us with his knowledge of history at various levels and has been a wonderful asset to the MacMurray College Archives with his institutional knowledge. It’s going to be a little bit quieter around here without seeing Rand’s smiling face coming through the doors but the memory of Rand will live on through the books on the shelves in the history section of Pfeiffer Library.
