Congratulations to Naval Station Mayport. Their team was awarded a top US Navy Public Affairs Award on May 13 in the Community Outreach category for its outstanding School Liaison Program.

The Navy’s School Liaison Program helps service members and their families navigate between school transfers and supports students during moves between schools, connects educators with the Navy Deployment Support System, and serves installation commanders as subject-matter experts on K-12 concerns.

Bravo Zulu!

Fleet Week Houston is drawing crowds to the Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Field, giving visitors a rare chance to get up close with Navy and Marine Corps aircraft and meet the service members who fly them. But for one visitor, the event became something far more personal.

Among the crowd of curious visitors was 98-year-old Lieutenant Commander Paul Martin, a Navy fighter pilot who flew missions over the Korean War. He was greeted by U.S. Navy Rear Adm. John Hewitt at the event.

A Navy admiral stopped to honor this 98-year-old Houston veteran at Fleet Week.

HURREX is a two-week exercise that ensures the Navy’s severe weather readiness and exercises response protocols to damaging weather events along the U.S.’s Southern and Eastern coasts. It provides a focused training event for afloat and shore-based commands using simulated hurricane scenarios to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, ensuring the fleet remains ready for global tasking and a credible deterrent.

U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFFC) and Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) will launch their annual hurricane preparedness and disaster response exercise, HURRICANE EXERCISE/CITADEL GALE (HURREX/CG) 2026, from April 13-24.
