UF Health TraumaOne

UF Health TraumaOne The only adult and pediatric Level I trauma program in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. It is a rigorous review of every aspect of the program.
(1)

When UF Health TraumaOne began in 1983, it was the first trauma program in the state of Florida. Today, it is still the only adult and pediatric Level I trauma program in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. On any given day, anyone can end up a patient in the TraumaOne trauma center. Ordinary activities - picking up the kids from school, painting the house, walking the dog - can turn into a l

ife-or-death situation in the blink of an eye. UF Health TraumaOne consists of five components:
- Trauma center
- Flight services
- Communications/dispatch
- Trauma prevention and education
- Emergency preparedness

TraumaOne's highly qualified staff consists of UF Health trauma surgeons, nurses and others with extensive training in caring for trauma patients. Unlike other hospitals in the area, surgeons and other health professionals such as neurosurgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthopaedic trauma surgeons and cardiothoracic surgeons are available on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The state's trauma programs are governed by a strict set of standards set by the Florida Department of Health. Every three years, TraumaOne undergoes a site visit in order to maintain its Level I trauma center accreditation. In 2013, UF Health TraumaOne added a third helicopter and implemented a new policy to dramatically cut down on our response time. Instead of basing our helicopters at UF Health Jacksonville, we have strategically placed them around the region ready to fly at a moment’s notice. Locations include Flagler Hospital in St. Johns County, Yulee in Nassau County, and Lake City Regional Airport in Columbia County.

Please join me in congratulating Jennifer Harrell, our Flight Outreach Coordinator and Stroke Educator, on being recognized as UF Health Jacksonville’s March Employee of the Month!

Jennifer was honored for her outstanding leadership and coordination of the Gate River Run medical operations, one of the most complex community events our team supports. Each year, TraumaOne Flight Services deploys a MASH-style field treatment tent to provide medical care during the nation’s largest 15K race. The success of this operation requires months of meticulous planning and coordination.

Jennifer works tirelessly to ensure every aspect of the medical response is in place, including a resuscitation area, water immersion tanks, intermediate care, a walking wounded treatment area, an oxygen bar, physical therapy services, and coordinated patient transport. She also goes above and beyond to ensure our private EMS teams have efficient access and egress routes to local hospitals, helping provide seamless care for participants when every minute matters.

Jennifer’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community exemplify the mission and values of UF Health Jacksonville and TraumaOne Flight Services. Her passion for improving community health and ensuring the safety and well-being of thousands of runners is truly inspiring.

Congratulations, Jennifer, on this well-deserved recognition! Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence. We are proud to have you as part of the TraumaOne team.
