Destroyer Squadron 40 Our mission is combined naval operations with our South American partners to achieve common goals. Southern Command's area of responsibility.

Commander Destroyer Squadron 40 (COMDESRON 40) plays a key role in executing our Nation’s Maritime Strategy by providing dedicated tactical support to naval operations in the U.S. The Squadron fosters unity and cooperation between the United States and its South American, Central American, and Caribbean Partner Nations.

GALAPEX 2026 is underway! ⚓️🐟 ⚓️

Ecuador’s BAE Jambelí (MP 56), Colombia’s ARC Punta Ardita (PC 147), Peru’s BAP Río Pativilca (PM 204), USCGC Robert Ward (WPC 1130), and several additional Ecuadorian naval ships conduct a PHOTOEX to mark the commencement of GALAPEX-26 on August 21, 2026. GALAPEX is an ongoing multinational maritime exercise led by the Armada del Ecuador which focuses on regional naval cooperation and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (INDNR) fishing to protect the Galápagos marine reserve. Destroyer Squadron 40 is providing dedicated tactical support to naval operations both afloat and at the Maritime Operations Center in Salinas, Ecuador. (Armada del Ecuador photo)
