Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative for Economic and Social Justice (SRBWI) organizes women via grassroots efforts in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

Founded in the autumn of 2000, by a grant from the Ford Foundation, the Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative for Economic and Social Justice (SRBWI), works with women in 77 counties the United States Department of Agriculture has designated persistently poor for more than two decades in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. These counties are mostly former plantation areas. SRBWI incubates business

es and builds networks of leaders and advocate for public policies that helps women, their families and communities. SRBWI is administered by the Children’s Defense Fund’s - Southern Regional Office and financed by private foundations and individual donations. Its hallmark programming and notable work are the Unita Blackwell Young Women's Leadership Institute, Human Rights Commissions and Asset Development, which includes Women in Agriculture and Southern Journeys.

Join SRBWI researchers, advocates, and ambassadors for our first annual Cervical Cancer & HPV Awareness Walk.

Immunity is community. Stronger together against HPV and cervical cancer.

This event will bring together communities across the Georgia and Alabama Black Belt and the Mississippi Delta for connection, prevention education, wellness resources, screenings, and support.

Walk & wellness bags will include snacks, water, cervical cancer prevention information, bracelets, and awareness goodies. The Georgia Department of Health Mobile Unit will also be on-site offering health screenings and educational materials.

📍 Locations include communities in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Come walk with us, learn with us, and help us TEAL OUT our communities!

Join SRBWI Researchers, Advocates, Ambassadors, and community members on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM for our first annual Cervical Cancer & HPV Awareness Walk – Immunity Is Community: Stronger Together Against HPV & Cervical Cancer.
Across the Georgia and Alabama Black Belt and the Mississippi Delta, we’ll walk together to raise awareness, share information and resources, and strengthen our collective commitment to preventing cervical cancer and other HPV-related cancers.
